Are you lurking here Matt?  :)

The fella who has the ex Slako race car is thinking about wrapping it in the 1976 Bathurst war paint for the 50th anniversary weekend at Phillip Island next year.  Tim Slako will be there to drive the car, so it would be nice to have the old signwriting on it.

I am assuming that a wrap rather than stickers would be the go, because although the car is white now, it would still leave a lot of orange to be applied, including the whole bonnet, roof and boot.

I don't know of any other race cars that have had this process applied, so am a bit unsure of just how clear pictures of the car need to be, or if indeed if there is a library of automotive logos somewhere to upload from.

What format is preferred for pictures?

Anybody else done this?

Hey mate!

Yep - I'm lurking! That could all definitely be achieved with a wrap. If the car is currently white (and I'm assuming it also has the SLR blackouts etc) you could wrap the orange/red sections and 'knifeless' tape them to achieve all the lines etc perfectly. You'd then overlay all the decals over the top. We'd have to re-create all the logos, I've already done some of them for other cars, but some we'd just have to do our best with from photo references. I need to turn them into a digital vector file so we can computer cut them to apply to the car.

If the owner of the car is in Victoria, my usual installers can help achieve all this. If the car is in another state, I can help set up the artwork and collaborate with another installer (I've got a couple of people I could suggest in some states who can install to the standard this would need).

As a really rough estimate without knowing all the details, to do the design & setup of all the livery and then also the cost of the installation and vinyl it's probably around the 10K mark.

Definitely happy to chat further about it if it was something they were interested in: all my contact details are available here: https://therendergar...com.au/contact/

Cheers,
Matt

Do you know any installers in Perth? I have stopped in at a couple that do vinyl wrapping, but have had no experience with doing a race car.

Be easier just applying a full wrap instead of a partial and decals, wouldn’t it?

This “plastic “ wrap paint was applied to the Bob Jane Monaro ,not sure which year this was, but looks as if wrapping has been around awhile.

It'd be very hard to get all the stripes and lines running straight and on the correct body lines whilst trying to apply it in a full wrap. It could be done, but it'd be hard!

That was a latex paint from memory that was put on the Monaro.

Cheers

I will message you sometime in the next week Matt.  I will try and find clear images of the various sponsors on the car. Which ones do you already have? I believe Motorcraft and 2UW went on most of the cars on the day?

From what I can see in the photos, I've already created Motorcraft, Castrol, GTX and the Hardie Ferodo 1000. So any of the others would be really handy. Most would have been hand painted back in the day, so I just do my best to match them up as closely as I can.

the old bathurst programmes are a good source of sponsor logos.... there is this one on ebay at the moment.
