Hi all

I got my old LJ back after about 25 years at liberty and regretting every day of it. and now I'm gonna have to pay for my decision to sell her in the first place.

Live and learn I guess. The basic aim is to get her road worthy and registered but as you can tell its not sure if possible.

Hope your skill set suits that job better than mine, that’s a lot of work there
Nice to have your old car back I’ll bet, just the same.
Someone has had their way with the poor old girl, alright
Was it a complete road car when you had it before?

That looks a lot like my Warwick Yellow GTS327 looked when I got it in the early 90's.

Yeah got a couple of mates that have done this kind of work on a couple of LC,s so I'll be leaning on them a bit.

I had it as a daily for about 5 years then stripped it for a rebuild for two.

It was done up as a speedway car buy the guy i sold it to. Was never comfortable about that.

Yes, but when my car was converted to a speedway car in 1974/5 a run down GTS327 was like a run down VN-VE SS was when it was 6 years old - it was junk. My car was used at the HK Monaro and Brougham dealer release in Sydney the week before the Press test day at Lang Lang followed soon after by the official release at Surfers Paradise. Charlie (Canowindra Motors) bought it off GMH, got warned by the local Police that a yellow V8 coupe driving around everywhere in excess of 100mph was a bad look. It ended up in Barnsley in Lake Macquarie by 1974, parked on the side of the road unloved. Bruno Landkauff bought t and converted it into a speedway car.

Its criminal

There was a time when you couldnt give an HK/T/G to the wreckers.

There was less for them to sell from it than a 4 door the same vintage.

Nobody really wanted them because they were problematic. They would just take up space.

You got nothing for them from a recycler and it usually cost money to dispose of them.

We paddock bashed GTR Toranas. Just belted the guards a bit for clearance, or chopped them out entirely.

Lots of spare engines in the yard, so if we blew an engine a couple hours later we were back in the paddock.

We had a party in the late 80s. Huge bonfire. HK GTS as centrepiece.

Owner sold the dash before the fire. He got another car earlier that day for a carton. With rego.

How many were chopped up for speedway or sports sedans?

Nobody cared. They had done their duty on the road and went to another purpose.

Cheers

Rob
