I want to be able to look inside a engine cylinder thru the spark plug hole (engine fully
assembled)
Duz anyone know if there is a device that duz this

I know there are medical instruments but I would have thought that there are
automotive ones around by now.

There are. Available from companies like Automotive Service Solutions I think. When I was at a dealership we had a rep come around and show it to us, not a bad idea, but at $4000 the service manager didn't go for it...

The unit is called a boreascope (spelling). We use these at work for looking into the cylinders of our medium speed diesel engines. The unit we have is worth about $15 000 from memory. Don't know whether you would be able to hire one, maybe try amcap. If all else fails go to a hospital they should have one :D

A mate has one, he inspects houses for termites. Comes in quite handy !!

I know several engine importers use them as well.

Thanks for that info. I was hoping there was something that was relatively inexpensive. But maybe going to a workshop that has one is the way to go (if one can be found in Perth).

It would probably be cheaper to just remove the head/s and have a look, plus you will get a better look at the condition as aposed to looking through the boreascope.

I found another optic fibre product which will cost about $350 - $400 landed so I am looking into this. As I have had a need for such a product in the past, I may get it.

There is a Pro-vision brand that is well priced and seems to be used alot.

Around $US200 for the one I think I want but as low as $US166 for one that I think will
do the job.

Just gotta find out whether the tool warehouse send to aust. A distributor in the east wants over $A500 for the $us166 product. Typical but thank god for the net.

See http://www.thetoolwa.../SLI-PV636.html for more info

I use these at work all the time, however the units are around $40,000. Everest VIT make the bst ones you can buy and are cheaper than some other units. Probably a bit out of reach for home use though lol, but very handy.

just incase anyone is interested in seeing what these things can do.
