Hi All
I have an LC with a 173. When it is first started in the morning it clatters for a few seconds before oil pressure gets up.
After that no noise each time I start it for the rest of the day
Yep. I know Hydraulic Lifter bleeding down overnight.
Changed the oil - Penrite HPR30 and filter even though the oil was relatively new. No difference.
Must be the lifters, even though they were changed with brand new lifters when I refurbished the car 3 years ago.
The local spare parts place only had two lifters, so I spent weeks taking off the rocker cover and side plates and replacing two lifters in each cylinder, each day, and then starting the engine each morning. No difference.
Changed the oil again - Nulon Full Synthetic. No difference.
Bought a full set of CROW cams Hydraulic lifters and fitted them. No Difference
Changed the oil back to HPR30 and fitted High Flow oil filter - Z30ST with Silicone Anti Drain Back Flow Valve. No difference
I can't think of anything else that would make the engine "clatter" for a few seconds until oil pressure happens. The engine has good oil pressure.
If it was a Big End, Gudgeon, Cam Shaft Bearing, it would be constant all the time.
Any ideas Team?
Regards
John
