Factory Black SS

anyone ever come across a Factory Black SS, 308, M21, 2.78 diff? A good mate used to have one and he sold it while living up the nsw north coast years ago. At that time it even had the SS stripes up the side and had US Racers for mags.

God those orange stripes look terrible on the black paint job,you would think they would had tried to at least color co-ordinate these things.They look good on other hatches but defenatly don't suit black.

Try telling the bloke that paid the record price for that GT-HO Phase 111 that Orange Stripes look bad with Black paint lol. But i agree not a good look no matter how rare it is!!

Its also dumb in my opinion.
If I had that type of money and wanted a classic aussie car I would buy a XY GT, a A9X, a L34, a E49 charger and I would still probably have change!! :D

I was about 17 when my mate bought the car. It had 41,000kms on the clock and he bought it off a woman at the markets in Sydney who had it from new. He had gone to Sydney that weekend to buy the car. I remember she told him that it "really goes" as she had had it up to 140kmh on its only ever trip out of Syd when she went to a wedding in Melb. I drove it to Bathurst in 1981 and it was a rush. The stripes look a shocker in that pic but with the US Racers and everything shiny it looked mad. Before he bought the mags tho and it had the stock wheels it looked awful. That stripe was a an eyesore and I used to think he should take it off but when the mags went on it just made it. Funny story the morning we drove to Bathurst he went and had the wheels fitted. He called past another mates place on the way to my house. He was inside about 10mins when he came out and drove off it shook itself silly. He got out to see what was going on and all but one wheel nut on each wheel was gone and the last nut was barely hand tight. He reckons someone had tried to steal em So he had to slowy drive to tyre shop and he fitted 5 different lock nuts on every wheel.

I know of 2 black SS hatchs, one was a factory L31 auto my mate owned who sold it to his brother wich eventualy put a 253 in it for P plate reasons, the other lives in my uncles street and sits under a carport and hasnt been driven in about 10 years, YES i have tried to buy it on many ocaisions and i almost did at one stage but the owner will die with it, well he prommised me he will anyway..

I recall often seeing a black 253 SS in Toowomba many, many years ago doing laps of the main street. Sorta half remember seeing it about 5-6 years ago with the same bloke driving it aswell one day. Was always neat and tidy and wouldnt be surprised if the same guy does still have it.

the guy owns a few fords he has already had an XY GT (not sure if he still owns it), he still has his RPO83 plus others.

he drives the car, when he purchased it he drove it back home from interstate.

i spoke to my mate to get some more info on his old SS. turns out he pranged it at some stage and bought an A9X 4 door. He used front gaurds etc from the A9X to fix his and also swapped out the motor, gearbox, front seats and other bits and pieces into his SS, he put his motor etc into the A9X and sold it off. Coz he couldnt buy the SS stripe anymore he removed the rest of it and it was all just plain black. The lad who bought it painted it white!!!. He also only has one pic of it which he has to find. when i quizzed him as to why only 1 pic he said he was young and wasnt into taking pics only chasing chicks, and that logic works for me lol

I saw a factory tuxedo black SS on Muscle Car Sales a couple of months ago, but it had been painted purple and a sunroof had been put in it. :cry:
