Crazy is right.
Other than the purple duco and the sunroof it was a nice car.
If it didn't have the sunroof and was still black, I would've very seriously considered buying it.

That purple hatch was originally a 253 and although it was a rare car everything in that car was changed or customised so it would have cost a fortune to bring it back to original,so it just wouldn't be worth the hassle.

With toranas yes, but with hotrods that will never be the case, well not for a looooong time anyway.
An example. An original 1927 chev tourer will bring 6-10k, depending on condition, but the best one will probably only get 15k. To restore it to that level will cost 3 times that.
My 27 chev is already worth more than that, and its not yet finished. go figure. And no, I havnt spent a motsa on it either, less than 5k so far, plus a whole lotta hours. :spit:

anyone ever come across a Factory Black SS, 308, M21, 2.78 diff?

A mate of mine has one stashed away in his shed. It has factory air and a factory or dealer fitted metal sunroof, no stripes and a rear spoiler. I went with him in 1988 to inspect the car prior to purchase. I offered to buy it before purchasing my current SS, but he says that he'll restore her one day.

I recall there being a hatch for sale on ebay last week or the week before that was factory black but had been painted white
Was in a sad state from memory

Can't find it now though

my mates was black but guy he sold it to painted it white. He had seatsand engine out of A9X and a few bits and a few pieces he had swapped over into it from a A9X wreck he had bought.

A factory black SS 5.0 Hatchback was traded in at Warracknabeal in about 1980 or 1981. It had "just married" etched into the paint on the hatch which was supposedly caused by toothpaste applied by a careless wedding guest.

are you sure it got painted white cause that car in the pic tuxedo with the orange stripes is mine and i love the stripes as that is how it came from factory, really gives it the ss look i think. It has chamios trim and has a T10 gearbox in it and US racers on the drivers side and 2 in the boot its a factory L31 m21 car sits in the shed waiting to be restored with the others ,waiting to sell my farm land then i will retire and finish the cars .At the moment i am poor!
