On the SS forum over in the States, a thread was started a while ago about these cars being stolen.  They seem to be targeted in every state, and on a large scale.  This list is for California only.

It has been hard to get hold of new LS motors from GM since 2021 and this may have something to do with it.

There were a lot. Also sent earlier as Pontiac G8.

40,000 GTO's (Monaro's),  30,000 G8's (VE SS), but only 13,000 Chevrolet SS's (VF SS Redline).  Of those 13,000 only 2,600 were manuals.  Only now, 7 years after GM closed up Holden for good, are the American car magazines saying that a manual Chev SS is the most underrated sedan ever sold over there.  If only they were a bit more vocal back then.

G8 was actually a V6 Laurie, not an SS. The G8 GT was an LS2 (6.0L) and the G8 GXP was an LS3 (6.0L). I have read that there were 38159 total G8 sold in the USA, not sure if that includes Canadian sold vehicles as well. Funnily enough the only place I ever saw a G8 was in Canada, in Victoria in British Columbia.
