I just fitted a nice baffle under the rocker cover pcv valve.
What else could it be? the engine is 11 000 k old, could it be tired already? (Standard bore black block)
Blowing smoke is not cool, need to fix this urgently.
Could it have a blown head gasket? doesnt run hot though.
All replys appeciated!
Thanx,
nathan

i made a pretty nice baffle today.. so i think that should of fixed the oil sucking into manifold problem. it was a mager problem before, had oil running out of the booster vacume hose

i might think about doing a compression test.. only problem is i have no compression tester

thanx,

White smoke is coolant
Black/Grey/brown smoke is fuel

maybe ill run a breather on the rocker cover and block off the carby vacume. or would an oil catch can be better?
i recon oil is comin from the tappet cover... that whys its blowing blue..
Im so sick of spending money on this 6.. its rediculous. im temted to get a lazy injected 8 that never needs a tune and always runs the same....
ahh well... ill try n get this 6 running good again... went like shit today, couldnt even put the foot down... the carby linkages stuffed up

My motor gives a good ol puff of fuel smoke at gear changes if i'm flogging it, it used to just smoke the whole time when i had pcv and baffle probs... Its only cos its a 350 holley and has been tuned to run good the whole time (basically running rich as to keep the idle good)... But at night, exhaust smoke and fumes are amplified by the headlights of the car behind you - i've noticed it too and had mates behind me who say they saw no smoke from the exhaust... Its just the heat vapour rising up past their headlights man... Dont worry too much!!

u talking about the 179 or another motor ^^
kewl its not just me! ill run an oil catch can. there quite cheap to buy, is it worth the effort to make one up?
So a oil catch is pretty much... Carby vacume hose to bottle then bottle to pcv valve/rocker cover
if i fix this problem im gonna save up for a dyno tune...

better get some sleep.. 5am

cheers,
nathan

Yeah, my 179 used to puff like snoop dog, and it was all because of the pcv and the baffles in the rocker cover... I nary see smoke now, unless its a bit of excess fuel being half burnt in the exhaust or the tyres going up (only at the drag strip), but yeah, my motor now has 10 000km on it - Woo Hoo!!
Holley's are easy to tune dude. If you havent figured it out before i come down i'll show you!
Cheers

Mines puffin like bob marley

chek out this polished alloy one

EBAY LINK!
does it need to have a breather ontop... it looks like it just fills up then i empty it out. im sure it would take a while to fill.
10 000k's ay! mines done about 11 500ks

I can tune a holley to run

Thanx guys,
Nathan

Just caught up on this thread, That catch can should do the job nicely

This is such a common problem with aftermarket rocker covers in conjunction
with roller rockers.

Just be prerared......you might get a shock when you see how much oil
was previously getting sucked into the engine.

i hope you got a fairly large capicity catch can there...
imagine it on a 1 hour drive, you'd almost have to empty it when you got there...
i drove mine for around 6months then got sick and tired of empting the container.. then just rebuilt it, never had a problem after that
im glad you can drive it now !!!
