do a compression test on it to see if its got blow by. If the compression is down put a couple of squirts of oil in each cylinder as you test it for 2nd time and if the compression comes up its got worn rings, if compression doesnt come up then you most likely have broken rings or leaking valves.

G'day Nathan,

Glad to hear your catch can works well. :spoton:
Here is what I think is still going on. You said in your first post, that you had made up a new baffle. It is possible that this has made it worse. If the oil is still getting past the baffle, but can't drain away quick enough, your PCV basically comes a giant straw, stucking up loads of oil instead of vapour. This would also account for the crank case pressurizing and blowing your PCV pipe out, as it was effectively blocked by oil.

I had his exact problem after I had made my catch can. I knew my engine was in perfect condition, (loads of dollars spent - brand new!!). It came back to being my baffle problem. I eventually solved the problem completely for less than $20.

How, you say??

I went to a swap meet and bought an original style pre-pollution rocker cover. The type with the extra rise and built in dual baffle system for the PCV. I glued 2 rocker cover gaskets together and put it on. It also clears the roller rockers fine. It is now absolutely perfect and the catch can is now just sitting there looking pretty!!! No oil to catch!! :D

The problem I think you have now, is you've already invested in the nice alloy rocker cover so you might need to go back to the baffle problem.

Personally, I would remove the baffle you just put in and use the original KC baffle, and try that.

I don't believe there is any problems with your engine.

Good luck.

Hey!

I just removed my home made baffle... im gonna take my torrie out soon for a run :spoton: the smoke only started after i put in this custom baffle so hopefully less oil will be sucked up.

The kc cover came with a flat piece of metal as i did buy it brand new but it doesnt really look like a bafle, anyone have a baffle on theres? or know how the piece of metal could attach?

Thanx for your help! :D ^^

nice bay, see how the pvc tube goes vertical for a bit, could that stop alot of oil getting through? as it wouldnt wanna go up. mines an L shapped pvc.

Cheers,
nathan

hey mate,
i thought the same thing, whats that piece of metal supposed to do, and hows it stay in?

just push it down in there, and youll see how it grips in there.

Hi Nathan,

I think we are getting somewhere. That thin piece of steel you got with you rocker cover, is the baffle. I have never had one of these covers but I have read on these forums before and apparently it fits in somehow under the cover.

I hope I am correct, but I think draglc (Andrew) and Keith's UC both have these covers and know how the plate fits in.

The short answer is no, this small amount of vertical hose would make no difference. To see what I mean next time you have the engine running, pull out the PCV and stick your thumb over the end and give the trottle a blip and see how hard it sucks.

Will be interesting to see how you get on.

haha... yea i did push it down in there earlier and it gripped quite nice :P i though wat would happen if a rocker hits it and it falls down... so it will be all secure..? seems quite dodgy for a 200$ rocker cover haha

Here are some results from my Hillclimb around mt cootha lol, loads of revs, no baffle, 45min. oil catch can is basically empty :spoton:

But... pvc valve has poped out (not sure when) and another mess to clean up.

ill chek how much oil i have loss.. doesnt look like too much, so i think with a good baffle the problem will be solved.. running great :D

Cheers! looks like the engine is fine :D

Yeah nathan, the thin bit of metal is your baffle. If you push it in it will stay no worries. I've done 10 000km on my motor and after pulling the rocker cover off on friday the baffle still stayed in there no worries!! I gave it about 10mm clearance from the top of the rocker cover and i've had no worries at all! I get the odd bit of oil past it, but nothing's fool-proof eh!

It should do the trick! Thats why they give them to you!!

Cheers
Keith

Unless you running sky rocket comp.. no real need for a catch can.

Hate to be bearer of bad news but theres something wrong with the motor .

Question when idiling and you undo the oil cap is it sucking or blowing out ?
