Hey guys i just found out Rare Spares have carbon fiber bonnets and boot lids for LC/LJ's, i picked it up and theres bugger all weight in it, pretty funny, dont know the price unfortunatly.
I was told if i have any straight panels such as gaurds etc the manufacturer can make them up for you from CF through Rare Spares. :spoton:

Sweet. Now i can paint my LJ in Gold metalflake, strip the interior, add some decals (Reverse on one side, of course), chuck some high, wide wheels and one of these bonnets on it, and go Driffin'!

Carbon Fibre?? That Black material thats weaved? Are you sure it isn't fibreglass...Because I'm pretty sure CF can't be painted, and I dont think people will appreciate that similarity between a jap import car an old holden.

Toranas had black bonnets before ricers
Some Datsuns had it before that even
And US muscle got it around the same time

Black bonnets are all good. But CF isnt exactly black. its a dark grey. And you can see that it isnt Black, its woven fibre's...

id personally rather a lj in phantom black with a 671 out of the bonnet ... no need for the carbon fibre bonnet! when are they gonna start making up new gaurds and shells more importantly

Fabian, I'm sure it's suited to racing applications. I wouldn't mind some CF or Fibreglass panels for a Torana... just not the current LX.

I asked the bloke at rare spares but he didnt know as it was still new, i think he had to ring the manufacturer or ask the boss or something, it wasnt listed in there computer when i was there.
Id say ring RS and find out, let us know what they quote you. :D

Yeah I suppose it depends on price but should be good to compare with RS.
They could use my original panels as plugs.

dont forget to check the legalities in each state for carbon fibre panels
as on impact they can shatter....good point is no more rust tho :)

Nah i think what you saw was the price of making custom panels, the boot lid itself wasnt $1200 i believe. It did have that written on it though but it had a little note on it. I could be wrong, i saw the same thing you saw but if i remember rightly it said up to $1200 for custom panels i think.

do they make them for LH/LX and are they strong enough to still use the bonnet hinges?

I checked them out today, dude behind the counter said around $1200 for the bonnet & $1050 for the boot, not much chance for a discount even in a group buy situation.

They do bolt on,are ultra-thin/light but I'm not sure about how well they would fit up & look though.Think the guy said Hawker or someone made them, not from Alpha.

For those prices I think I would rather try fibreglass which would probably be easier to fix up properly for better gap clearances & bubbles like the c/f ones had.

Or I'll just save abit longer & get alloy heads for my 308 but Im still a long way off,too busy with work.
