Just put some new 2inch lowered springs in my hatch now the only problem i have is the tyres are taking the lip out of the guards and in turn taking chunks out of them. Can i do them myself and if not how much would i be looking at?... Tyres on the front are 195/50/14's

I have heard of wooden baseball bats, ally baseball bats and steel pipe being used for this...never done it nor would I want to.

are you talking about lipping the gaurds? have done it on a vl before... its pretty straight forward but a bit of skill as well as luck. What you do is get a rubber mallet get some1 else to apply even pessure on the outside of the guard. Give it firm taps until the steel stars folding back. Do it right around where needed. In doing this theres a 98% chance the paint will crack and chip off where the lip folds. I would give it to the pros... theres a tool panel beaters use that bolts to your hub.. and rolls over the lip of the guard to fold it... the guard is also heated slightly to stop the pain from cracking. Give a couple panel beaters a go and see what you can find out or just give it a go yourself and hope of the best.

There should be a mobile person that will come to you & roll your guards for you advertised in the major magazines,the one I saw was where the guy takes off your wheel & bolts his machine to your hub,he adjusts it so that a roller pushes the lip in a little bit at a time so that the paint doesnt crack.

use a hammer and dolly, and a towel
remove the wheels
put the dolly on the towel, then both on the outside of the guards
get the hammer, a big mallet will suffice and mash it outwoards
be careful though (hitting yourself) or making your paint crack (inevitable).
get a professional to do it, they have one of those tools that snap onto the wheel, then they turn the handle and bang.

There is generally NO guarantee what so ever for the paintwork as it cracks almost every time. Places shouldn't charge more than $50 per corner to do it.

years ago we used to take the wheels off,
then get a block of wood and a jack
you basically pump the guard out with the jack and wood
pump the guard out in one spot ,then move onto the next part,
eventually youve gained 1/2in (or more if you keep at it) clearance with the guard looking standard
if its done slow, the paint wont crack.
