monday i will be going in for a new clutch and must decide whether to go for a heavy duty clutch, heavy duty button clutch or heavy duty cushion button clutch. I need advice on what to put in there. The motor is nothing hot just a mild 253, but i have future plans to put something bigger in its place. The car is only driven on weekends and not used for everyday transport. Ive been told that the button clutch is basically like an on/off type thing where the clutch is either directly engaged or disengaged... What should i go for? i havnt had any experience with a button clutch and am unawair of how they drive....

cheers

My experience with button clutches are they are a bit like a boat drive clutch. On or off. They tend to not like slippage and vibrate, shudder and so on on engagement. I would go the heavy duty for your application.
Having said that, my experience is limited to Subaru Imreza turbo with button clutches. This Subby was a bit of a pig to drive in traffic. Might be a bit more user friendly on a V8. Another thought is a "centre force" clutch. They have fly weights that centrifugally increase pressure plate pressure as the revs increase to stop slippage, but on take off work like a standard clutch.

308 1 tonner clutch seemed to work fine in my mild 253.
you can always upgrade it later if power increase dictates.

id personally go for the heavy duty clutch, or as ALX76 said , the 1 tonner clutch. brass button clutches are not practical for the street.

1 tonner clutch and pressure plate combo is the holden heavy duty option for standard 25308.
3300 pounds of clamping force on 10 inch (standard 9 1/2 inch).
so if upgrading from standard to 1 tonner, have the flywheel checked and machined incase there is wear present on it.

after talking to many people in the clutch industry ive decided to go with an Xtreme 10.5" heavy duty clutch. Ive been told it holds 40% more than the standard clutch and is light on the pedal.

i went button and i absolutly luv it! will not slip ever.. its grips so damn hard..

Pricey tho... at $470 buks for plate and presure plate and thow out bearing.. i think it worth it, depending on how u wanna drive.
