hi guys

yeha like it says in the ttile when the ignition is in the off position on the monaro there is a whiring sound. the ignition barrel isnt really the best one ive seen turn it to far back and the radio turns on, dosent hold the key pull it out when its on. the car was parked up for abit over two weeks and the battery didnt go flat so im sort of stumped as to waht it could be.

cheers gump

the radio should turn on when turned all the way back, and the key thing is just a aecurity thing, the actual switch is located down the steering column a bit more
tell us more
what type of whirring sound, and as said before, where is it coming from
cheers
dave

if it has A/C and the key switch is a bit dodgy try sliding the A/C and fan controlls to the off position, better still fix the ignition barrel key.

yeah sorry about not giving a decent discription. the sound can only be heard in the car so i dont think it could be fan/pump. dont think its an air con fan sounds alot quiter than a fan sound. how loud are the clocks in the hj's. it dosent have an eltric up/ down arieal its got one of the one you put on the window the sort hidden ones.

yeah i know the barrel needs fixing but ive been broke as all hell recently just paid off 2 grands worth of work on my cruiser. plus i bought this monaro so next payday i can start doing some work on the new old girl

Put a tube to your ear (30-50cm), block the other ear, and you might be able to track it down

check that the demister fan isnt running... that could be it especially if its only on speed 1.

The ignition switch itself is about $50.. and the barrel from rare spares isnt terribly expensive ( around $20 from memory!)

I;d definitely replace both of these components.. the switch itself was dicky in my monaro and was a SHITIFIGHT to sort out!!

Good luck!

Try pulling out some fuses till the noise stops, this should find the problem.

Cheers Chris

Disconnect the battery!

I "guarantee" this will fix the problem noise. :tease: and any others you haven't noticed yet. :)
