tie the window winder to a tow bar off another car and flat foot it... should work a treat..
or buy ther special tool
or get 2 skinny ass screw drivers and try push the retainer out.. iv done it.. its stressful and time consuming but its certainly possible.

Buy the $5 tool or your likely to rip you door trim trying. The clips should be facing open end towards the handle, but sometimes people put them on backwards. You can usually push the trim back enough to see which way they are in.

USe a rag...

Pull a piece of rag up under the handle and the clip should come out HEAPS easy...

As doc suggested push the door trim back and see which way the clip has been put on!

Cheers

Never thought of that. It'd be even easier than the clip remover.

I use an old choke inner cable with a small hook bent in the end.

^ Interesting suggestions. Now I regret chucking out the choke cable from the Sunbird (it was damaged, I thought it was useless)

I have in the past used just a skinny wire with a hook bent in the end, and ripped it out with pliers. I don't know why, but fark it is hard on the SL!

I simply can't get the bastards out of the rear. Tiny does that damage it? I don't really wanna lose my C clips either.

As i said, i havent actually needed to do it!

THe best thing with the rag is it doesnt damage it.. it just opens up the clip and pushes it off the spindle.

I'm fairly sure the guy who told me... said that usually it stays in the rag too! making it alot easier!!

The rag method sounds like it should work without loosing the clip. Heath, you can try that method when the Commy lands and report your findings. :spoton:

I know this thread is old but I can't even see the farkin clip. I'm not worried about the trim & I can push that in, still can't see the clip. I'm beginning to think the rope method might be best....

I have the tool but still no joy. It must be there somewhere. We had a look at Rare spares & the parts book, neither show a clip. Any other suggestions?!

Buggered.

just a skinny wire with a hook bent in the end, and ripped it out with pliers.

Thats the way i do it too, but i'm going to try the rag and if succesful will adopt that method.

Hi

Just to clarify - the tool goes between the handle and the door trim.

Nice tip about the rag. Would probably be easier on the trim than a tool (me) with the tool :D I had trouble with a couple of clips previously but when I lined the tool up and gave it a solid whack the spring went flying !! Was paranoid about losing the clips until recently when I realised you can buy a packet from super cheap, repco etc for about $2 for four. They are in the revolving stands with all the bolts and nuts and stuff.

Tiny, I suggested this a year or so ago to use rag to remove clips on window winders is too easy and dosen't damage door skins and even catches clips.Enjoy :spoton:
