Hi all,
I put a thread up like this once before, but I cant seem to find it so I will start again...I found a good rubber bung to fill the chassis rail holes in the engine bay (next to your cylinder heads)

here is a look at them fitted...

Posted Image

now .... I have double checked my info... I went back to my old Holden Dealership today and went and spoke to there Pre Delivery Tech AGAIN !! and yes these 50mm bungs are off a VY or VZ Commodre Ute...they are discarded when ever a genuine towbar and wiring is fitted...the new wiring kit comes with the wiring going through the new bung....the bungs are located on a vertical panel directly above where a towbar would normally be fitted (underneath the car)...to prove it I picked up another one (I now have 5, 1 spare) and asked him to save them for me...free of course... so If you see me with my torana, I may have some to give away!!

Here is the part no and reatail price !!
Holden 92040558 $2.80 each. B)

They look like a neat fit - I think I'll be off to the local Holden dealer to buy my LH and LX a Christmas present! Thanks Mr LXChev366 :D

I'd put some on my car, but it would ruin the crusty race car look.....haha

They do look good in a nice clean engine bay tho...!

Looks like they sold! When I last checked them they were heading up towards the $100.00 mark and there were a good number of bids and plenty of time left... I think the cost comparison makes the alloy ones rather expensive.

Cheers

The funny thing is I didnt fit them for looks ...I fit them so I wouldnt drop things down the holes... B)

While I was asking the Spare parts guy about the part no.s, I noticed there are 2 under the bum of each ute..I believe under crewman utes also. So if you ask NICELY....ask to speak to your Holden dealers "Pre Delivery" Manager/Technician to save them for you....They are a useless comodity to a dealership...because they normally end up in the bin, when a tow bar is fitted....(but only one is removed in fitment)

LXChev366 Your a legend. :spoton:

I picked up some from my holden dealer today. They fit very nicely. If anyone was wanting a nice shiny look they could probaly machine up some round stainless or aly pieces to fit into the centre of the grommet as they are sort of recessed when they are fitted.

Yep Thanks.
Its pure luck actually, one day I was looking through my bung collection and found one that fit really well, so I kept an eye out and found 3 more (they were lying on the floor)... I then discovered where they came from...
so did you pay for them?

Yep, they are rubber bungs that suit a 50mm hole....

Vernier caliper measurements...
61mm overall diameter
51mm inner diameter (ie tongue groove)
53 - 51mm (tapered lower section)

_____________ 61mm
..l__________l 51mm
.\___________/ 53mm down to 51mm

above is my attempt at a drawing??

as the hole has a gentle curve on the chassis rail, the bungs seem to wedge themselves into position. Normally bungs get fitted to flat steal, but the chassis rails aren't. I have had them fitted for 3 race meetings and have stayed put. They are a nice neat firm fit.

the poilshed alloy ones i have, have a groove machined into them so a o-ring can sit in it and holds them firm in the rail, works very well

Would holden wheel centre decals (not the caps) fit in the recessed area?

Grant..

^ I've seen hubcap centres from a VT (I think) put in place of the holes.

Yeah I saw that done too, on a White Hatch in Albury in late 2000/early 2001 (was for sale at the time). These bungs would be much cheaper.

no mate i didnt pay for them. I just asked the HSV service manager who does my gts. he gave me a few sets so i handed one out to dattoman and am waiting for some more although he has gone on holiday for now.

Only problem now is what to do with the fuel line that comes up through one of them holes?

they definately save dropping stuff down the holes anyway

THE GTS: try cutting a little "X" into one of the caps and slide the fuel line though the cut. it should let you push the rubber down and go back into the hole!

Good luck
