Alpha does CF as well - their latest catalog has all the LX stuff in CF - it is about 50% more than the fibreglass costs so round the $650 or something for the bonnet for an LC.

Nah but they can send you one - I would have thought an online one would be the go these days (I have had a go at them about this)

It is a pretty detailed catalog (lots of parts and prices)

Really helpful guys too.

Hi all,
yeh the reason i was asking bout fibeglass guards and bonnets etc. is that i'm planning on making a carbon fibre front for my LC and just wanted to find out if it would be cheaper to buy a glass front or just make a cf one. My old man works in the fibre glass boat industry and can get me cf for $50 a square mtr. So i think that ill be making mine instead of paying $650 just for a bonnet.

Thanks Joel

hey everyone,
just a few quick questions about this topic. I've been thinking about fibreglass front ends on my LJ for a little while now. My 2 questions are how does changing to fibreglass guards and nose and possible bonnet effect the handling on the car, because of the weight change. Also how hard is it to remove the current guards?? is it a case of just using a spot weld cutter to remove them? How do the fibreglass bits get connected to the car also??
cheers

Give yoursrlf a weekend to remove the gaurds/nose cone, i used a spotweld drill, i also used a knife which i used to separate the gaurd from the car by poking the knife in between then tapping it along the join with a hammer, this cut somewhat the remaining weld, obviously if there is too much weld left behind the knife wont cut it.
The CF or FG front will take some weight off the front making the weight out front and back a little even.
I think the CF gaurds can be bolted on?? or glued on with sikaflex??? im not sure but good questions i would like to know the answer to.

i've been looking at making some fg gear for toranas. i'll have a fiddle if i get some spare time and if the molds come out i'll let yas know...i'll prolly intend on marketing them if i get there. bumpers will prolly be first up. then i'll try a bonnet and boot skin. then i'll have a look at doors.

Actually you will prob have to take the front doors off to get to the welds behind the guards

Mick,

There are a few ways to mount the fibreglass guards, on my car i only have fibre guards the nose cone is metal so i used a combination of screwing the guards into metal in certain areas and using sikaflex. Only hard part with just guards is lining them up.
If you have a full front fibreglass you could do the same if you dont plan on removing them or you could mount it with dsuz fastners so you can remove the front when ever.
If i did it again id go a full front and have it removable. Mind you my car aint a street car...
