SLR Torrie: this is a factory Tuxedo black car.

From the info Ive gathered, the guy I bought the car off owned it for 4yrs and had it re-painted approx 2 years ago, he purchased it off a guy that owned it for 22 years and apparently the car was "as is" when he purchased it. So thats 26 years out of 36 accounted for..... So at some stage between being brand spanking and 10 year old, this car was stripped and re-built into some sort of 80's show car...?

I purchased the car as a rolling painted shell. Ive now gotta do the mechanicals, interior and everything else and get it back together....!

Thats pretty cool. I guess its possible that it could have featured in a magazine at some stage. The red powder coated bits sort of make sense then.

Any thing and everything shiny have all been powdercoated maroon...... Exterior/interior door handles, window winders, rear view mirror mount, F/R bumpers, fuel tank, tail shaft, front K frame, G/box crossmember, suspension, brakes, door frame stainless moulds.... The interior was re-trimmed from Chamois to black/marron, velour pillar trims, headlining....

I think its a bit of an 80's tragic....?

Rob 5000, so your mates SS was an LX obviously? This being an LH in Tuxedo seems to be a rare thing?????

No idea about wheels at this stage. Probably the Rebels that are on it for the time being...! No bigger then 15's will be going on it. Wanna keep it period correct.

Nothing major to update, just stripped my heater lever assy, all the grease had gone hard, so cleaned it all up and re-lubed, also fan switch came apart when I unplugged it so was a good chance to clean it out and clean up contacts. I also removed all the contacts from the fuse panel and cleaned them all up. The one thing I hate is electrics not working on old cars. Everything is going to work sweet on this thing.

I just picked up a full set of SL/R hubcaps from a guy in Junee. His father bought a tuxedo black SL/R new in 1977, and in 1978 he took off the hubcaps and shedded them, in favor of Hotwires. We spoke on the phone and he told me about his father and the SL/R. It had silver SLR 5000 on both sides. No flares.

Brad, yours is an LH... so not the same car, but doesn't a bit of history like that make you wonder sometimes?

Keep up the good work mate.

That gives a bad error message?

Is it this one your talking about? Judging by the headlights, its an LX.

I am more of a fan of modified street cars but I have to say I greatly admire your deadication and efforts to restore the old girl the detail is amazing, this is going to be one very nice car when it is done, just don't sell it me because you would cry when I fit the flares mags and fluffy dice :innocent:

Hahahahaha, nah this one aint getting flared!!! For sure, Ive been down the modified route before. Its fun customizing to your own taste. But I honestly think thats to easy. Getting a car back to how it should be after its been f*cked with over 36yrs.... now thats a challenge!!!!

Got the Ignition switch apart and gave it a well deserved clean up inside and out.
