Yeah 60ft was 1.75

Running MT ET streets on the back but they are 225/50r15 so not at all a tall tyre. I picked them because my gears are 3.5s so I wanted to up the revs.

I think with taller tyres, shorter gears it would easily do 11.

I had a lot of fun anyway and that's what it's all about (to me anyway).

HAha still 12 ,s after all that extra power and convertor , I'm doing another engine as we speak . If I don't run a 11 I would be shattered looking at 480-500 hp

I don't recall seeing your car at the drags?

Well done mate, great time. And like the others have said, that MPH is good for 11's already if you keep chasing. A nice cold crisp night at Calder Park would see you there.

12.2 for a street car - sounds pretty quick to me! It's not for sheep stations anyway, it's for fun and satisfaction. Sounds like you won there. Great car this one, good job.

1.7 60ft
Not bad really

Good 60ft and mph, something isn't adding up right. It can't be wheel spin.
Are you shifting gears to late?

Time for an update.

I'm semi over racing as I'm not prepared to lose functionality as a street car/cruiser to get into the 11s so it's time to improve the cruising experience.

Seeing as it gets so hot in Canberra (lol) and I'll be driving 16hrs return trip to the nationals in a month I've decided to add AC to the taxi. Have been plugging away on it for the last week or so after collecting parts and figuring out how I wanted to do it.

I wasn't totally happy with the dash and how I'd mounted the gauges so decided to fix all this up at the same time.

First thing to do was pull it all apart and figure out how I was going to mount everything. Early on the decision was made to dump the Torana heater box, cables, switch, fan assembly and fit a vintage air underdash heat/cool unit.

82b6ece132ee6573583a707e71b0fb01.jpg

This is the vintage air unit.

Engine bay with old fan assembly before

The new vintage air control panel which I'll integrate into a panel housing the gauges.

cd0ed3ab72867fcd36586a93c88cfdc8.jpg

Started working on a prototype for the switch panel.

2nd effort painted satin black

da0180ab4c7f5035293ccfba1fefd992.jpg

Mounted gauges and switch panel. Also redid all the wiring at the same time so now everything behind the dash is plug and play. Much neater and easier to add/remove/diagnose.

a05a47e6ebd3085ae541a234d284c955.jpg

Deleted the Torana ashtray and added a double vent instead.

cacbd3892727c3a1840265ffa4c98d37.jpg

Plugged off all the fresh air vents leading into the cabin from the plenum. The 2 side vents will be plumbed to the vintage air unit also. Deleted the fan assembly and made up some alloy panels to fill the void and mount the manifold for the heater/AC lines.

207a4d5d7b9669451a98199e8d18d108.jpg

Made up some brackets and mounted up the condenser and remounted the trans cooler. Happy it all fits behind the grill without mods.

b953655e2acb73523e6f02ff0e3587a0.jpg

Made up a panel for the AC relays and fusible link. This will go up under the dash on the passenger footwell wall.

6182fb02702037e5e08b6b7d77640baa.jpg

Used the factory commo LS compressor mount and modified it to clear the tuff mounts. Fitted up the compressor and it all just clears the control arm and engine mount.

So that's where I'm up to.
I'm hoping to have it finished by the end of next week as I'm doing it in between other stuff and at night.

Nice work Darren, will make longer trips more comfortable. Your car is good inspiration for me as it is not just well built and fast but also practical and I think I can achieve a similar finish (one day)

Where did you but the buts from?
Did you buy local or order from the States?

Woohoo

Thanks Tom.
Nice words indeed.
All bits sourced locally. The exchange rate has taken the value out of Summit and other US suppliers

Love this build. I've been tossing up air con for ages, I think you have tipped me over. Which vintage air unit did you choose? It's confusing as there are so many.

It's the gen II compac version.....

This one.
http://pages.ebay.co...lobalID=EBAY-AU

Fits up under the dash and clears the PCM which I have mounted on the tunnel nicely.

If I had my time over i would've done this as part of the initial build and it could be so much sweeter. Unfortunately I'm not prepared to cut open the upper plenum at this point to do it how I'd want to....but the next build will definitely have it all integrated.

Excellent - thanks. And yes, me adding air con now is better than trying to do it when it's finished. Bette rout some thought into it. That and my power windows...

Finished the underdash connections and mounted up the HVAC unit and started running the ducting.

0d1ca6eea8f9bebb32538f4c6d38753a.jpg

Modified a 4 way manifold and split it into two then drilled and mounted it on the inner guard for the heater and AC lines. These will be concealed in the inner guards to route to the drivers side where the water pump outlets and AC compressor are.

65b54f8d05613253dc9dc91431aae72a.jpg

Mounted up a few of the lines to check how it'll look.

e4267f41e1a0f11a12ba669d9d5b95db.jpg

Fitted up the new control and gauge piece. Plugged it in and finalised the wiring.

ab335153182f2368626581e13c60a41c.jpg

Have had to run a 2nd relay to control the fans to cool the condenser. The LS PCM triggers the relay with an switched earth....the vintage air unit sends a 12v signal to the trinary switch which then sends 12v to the compressor and fan relay. This forced a 2nd relay run in parallel to trigger the fans.

Have a few more lines to run and mount, then it'll be time to gas it and start testing...

Beer time :)

Looking good Daz. The Vette and your Torrie will be ready for summer cruisin up to Heathcote :)

Got the roady for the Torrie mate. And the Monaro sold a few days ago. It will be going in for a roady on Monday. Hopefully I don't get smashed!

Air con is a great addition...I'm sure glad I did it on the first go around myself.

That is great news dude. You sure do turn over your cars!

Yes, I regret not planning it prior to the initial build. I would've deleted the majority of the plenum and all the fresh air vents to integrate it into the car much smarter.

The next car will be better!

4 seats doesn't go into 5 people so had to let it go. Put a deposit on another car this morning. Exactly the same colour VZ SS auto one owner.
