For transport of my racecar its left out of gear , has no handbrake and is strapped onto the trailer tight around the wheels so the suspension isn't under stress

This is the only way I would do it

The handbrake would be reasonably inefective in actually holding it on the trailer if something "happens" anyway

I would also prefer using straps, however there is no guarentee I will be able to find a tray for sale that has lock down points. So for the sake of a few bucks, I'm having a third way of minimising car movement whilst transporting it.

If its for transport only why not make up a brace to hold the foot brake on?

It may not stay there after the first bump in the road.

Not a lump of timber, I mean make a brace that locates somewhere on both ends, maybe a threaded sleeve at one end for adjustment.

Gotcha, but it still sounds more expensive and less convenient than the rotary valve.

Yes that would seem to be pretty simple.
