KUDU check on the d/s of the radiator, near the wings of the radiator, your chassis number should be there, just near where the chassis rail meets the radiator support, although if your engine bay has had a few coats of paint it may be hard to see

Should be on the sheet metal, somewhere near the bottom of the coil in the pic.

It should be a lot further forward than that , within a few inches of radiator and near the edge , they are not stamped real clear in some of them , but if it has ever had and sort of front end damage mightnt have one at all , TREX

Here is a picture of the stamped numbers. Radiator is to the right and the number is located between it and the thermo fan switch.
Hope this helps

That number, and the number on the large tag with the ADR numbers, should be the same.

Well here is a question for you..............what about the cars exported to NZ???
Our cars dont have the big tag on the drivers side fitted to them. So there is nothing to match the chassis number up to, is that right?

Cars exported to NZ did not have the compliance plate fitted. Instead of the 3 tags we just have the two. The passenger side one with the engine/trim options etc and the one in the middle with the VIN.

So as i asked previously what would we match the chassis number to?

As a note, early LC/LJs had the 3rd ADR compliance plate but from LH onwards they were not fitted to the cars destined for export.

Yes we do have a LOT of rules that a car must comply to, but these are checked at each "Warrant Of Fitness" check. This is done every 6 months and if there is any breach your car is not allowed on the road.

The only number taken by VTNZ when you are going for your WOF or rego-ing your car is the Vin number.

yes but a car has to comply to a set of rules in that country at time of release. How do they know what rules your car complys with?

It must be like pre-70 cars here, no compliance plates.
Still rules to comply with eg seat belts, etc. Just no ADR compliance, maybe there is no such things as NZDR's

The answer is "All of them" When we have our warrant checked every 6 months they have a whole page of complience rules ansd regulations that our cars must meet. If it fails on any of point it is not allowed on the road until it does meet the regs.

And as LS1LX it is most probably like it was in Pre 1970 OZ.

And when a car has been off the road for a while in NZ they are issued with a new vin which is attached to the car with the other tags , REX

Either way, it would be good to know.

well, I have some bad news for you, if it's 11/77 it's not an SLR 5000, none were made after the end of AUG 77. You either have an A9X there or a set of tags off one. Can you let me know the numbers and I will confirm it.

Hi REDA9X

I didn't know that no SLR 5000's were made after Aug 77.

I'm slightly confused now...

I have a SLR 5000 which VIN is 8D69THJ5*****X

The 'H' suggests the year is somewhere between SEP 77 and AUG 78 (which is after AUG 77). Is that correct?

And I'm sure that the Safety Compliance Plate (ADR Plate) is stamped 9-77.

Not having my car present I'm only 99.99% sure but I'll get my friend back home who's looking after the car to verify it.

antelope, if you'd let me know the rest of the PSN in a PM I can let you know. It's more than likely released just prior to A9X or right on the change over.

Most likely built in August and not complianced till September. I have seen another. I have also seen a CLX chassis with the DLX on the compliance plate. Meaning that the car was built before Jan 1978 but complianced after Jan 1978. The numbers match on the ADR tag but he ADR prefix is different.
