Hi Guys.

This HK/HT/HG disc rotor thickness query pops up often.

CHOPPER said "HK V8 & all HG discs are around 3 MM thicker than other HK & HT discs."

Not quite correct. ALL HK rotors are only 1/2" thick, ALL HT (except GTS 350) are also only 1/2" thick, but HT GTS 350 & ALL HG including 6 cyl, are 5/8" thick. The later calipers use the same castings as the early ones but have 2 x 1/8" spacers in between the 2 halves. They also have a 1/16" spacer at the caliper mount to give it the correct offset. The spacers in between the 2 halves are difficult to see & the mount spacer is often lost, you do see many cars with this missing.

thanx Dr T, so with that do 13 inch wheels fit any or all of the HKTG brakes, with or without spacers?

Hi ALX76.

No, 13" wheels will not fit over HK/HT/HG disc brakes, but they will fit over the larger, 10" HK/HT/HG drum brakes. Also the spacers are not there for wheel clearance, they are there so that the narrow caliper fits over the thicker disc & still allows new pads to be fitted.

They look like standard LJ discs to me.

No spacer is evident from the pics. (But I could be wrong)

This front end looks to have backing plates behind the discs.
On the XU1s these were deleted.
People that used larger discs and calipers usually did likewise.

Check the thickness.
As Dr Terry said the larger discs are 16mm wide.
