LC GTR OR XUI

This is the one in my car.
This is the one in my LC Breakaway Accessory Brouchure.
There is some one making repro's but I got mine (original type) off eBay for about $47 to my door which I thought was a good buy seeing how the repro's were about $65
The radio sitting over the console is one I just use to play my old taped music on.
If you need a better pic I can do one for you or enhance the lighting on the first one.
I like the under-dash parcel shelf because as you know the glove-box in the LC/LJ is tiny. It makes a great place to put road maps etc.

Must be the one I got as I have not seen another one since

PS That weathershield I got recently, so far, has been the only one I have seen on eBay or any where else. It is the same as the one in that Accessory Brouchure pic and that is how I knew it was the correct one. No one else bid on it so I got it for $10.

I've added some of the accessories to my car so that it is a bit different to the others but will still be all LC Torana.
I fitted the door pull handles to stop the arm-rests from getting a caning and also the rear Venetians to try and cool the car down a bit in the sun.
Probably won't fit the front shade or weathershield but will definitely put in the radio, speaker and aerial.
Just by a lucky coincidence, the radio came out of an LC XU-1 and I have the matching Air Chief Manual for it that has the corresponding radio serial number inside the front page.
The only thing I wish I had for the car would be the complete ownership history.
I didn't get any response from my email and pics of wee beastie in the latest issue of AMC.

My glove box has a dimpled surface and has a bit of graffiti on it done by Harry Firth.
I haven't seen the deep grain vinyl glove-box but there is no reason why there shouldn't be more like that as that glove box only fitted one model car. One persons deep grain vinyl might be anothers fine grain?
I don't have the log book for my car and I only know the previous owner who did not give me any info on its past ownership history.
When I had my HR Premier 186-S 3sp/man, I knew all who had owned it since new and even spoke to the original owner. He asked was the ding in the rear right guard still there?
When I answered "yes", he told me that he put it there and never bothered to get it fixed.
The benifits of having the entire history of your car is multitude. You will know:-
1/ How many owners there were before you.
2/ Approximately the mileage and where the ex-owner/s took the car to.ie Long trips, rallys, hill climbs or just mainly local driving.
3/ What maintenance was done on the car.
4/ Was the car involved in any accidents?
5/ Was the motor/gearbox/brakes/diff overhauled and or changed for something else like Opel box changed for M20/21?
6/ Had the car been resprayed?
7/ Was the suspension changed/altered. This is sometimes hard to detect.
8/ What did the car drive like and were there any idiosyncrasies? (Quirky things)
9/ AND most important, did it get a floggin'? as most did.
Migtht be able to think of a few other things but that list will do.
Do not leave it tooooooooooooooo late because the ex-owners do not live forever.
If approached properly and politely, most ex-owners will be only too happy to talk about their "old pride and joy" and will probably ask you as many questions as you ask them. The back seat of your car might have been where their family was started
There are ways of trying to find some one in a town even if they have moved address.
AND no! you are not hasselling me. If I can help, I will.

Use the internet to see if that name is still at that address in the phone book. (Google White Pages)
If that person is still at that address, then it is a toss up if you write or phone. I prefer phone as it is more personal and you have them "jolly on the spot" to get a yes or no if they want to talk about the car.
Don't phone too late at night, don't phone on a Friday or Saturday as they may be out and most people are home on a Sunday evening. Possible good time to call is 7 to 7.30pm.
Find out the name of the local newspaper and write a letter to the Editor and put in it what you are doing and trying to find out. A lot of newspapers have websites and you can write a "Dear Editor" story into to them.
You may not know it but one of our forum members lives in that town. email me and I will send you his name and email address. A contact in the town is a good start and local knowledge is the best.
Try that lot and see how you go. I might have a few more ideas but they are the best at the moment.
