Nah I just got a wire brush drill bit and went spastic and took all the dirt off them. Then I painted all over it with that Wattle Kill Rust. It's gonna get some underbody tar put on it too..

I am trying to prevent rust from ever coming back anywhere. I want this tory to last me a lifetime :D

Well I got the rear window out today and this is the outcome..

It's reasonably good.. I wire brushed all of the surface rust off and it doesn't look to bad.. There are a few holes but nothing serious.. I am going to try to mig it all up. Might even cut out some strips and weld new bits in. Will see how game I get later this week lol..

The rust shown in the pics is the only rust, the rest is perfect..

I also removed the gas tank today. It's still 3/4 full of gas so we are gonna try to connect it up to the forklift lol.

Cheers

Agreed! you are making excellent progress, and whats even better is your are doing similar things that i have to do so its a good learning curve to see how you have approached things.

Your rear screen appears pretty good in comparison to mine! :spoton: When mine came out, there was half the sill stuck to the seal! :tease: I am starting to think that perhaps i am going overboard with the rust removal... I guess that cant be a bad thing though!

Cheers

wouldnt mind knowing the same thing... i am leaving that part till last but when i do do it i want to cut it all out and weld new sections in, and if that means manufacturing up some of the sections then so be it.

What will the motor get in terms of mods? Roller Rockers, cam, headwork etc.

Still not 100% sure on engine mods yet.. But it will be something like:

Rings
Bearings
Cam - Not sure which one yet. Anyone have any suggestions?
Street Terra roller rockers
Wouldn't mind some straight cut timing gears or gilmer drive
Extractors
Probably no head work as they flow good now. Might get them shaved a bit. Should take them into work and do it..

It will all come down to how much $$$ I have when it's time to do the engine..

Today I painted all the window rust with rust convertor.. Left it to dry over night, and I am going back early tomorrow morning to weld up all the holes.. I also bought some fish oil and went nuts in all the seals everywhere. Smells beautiful now lol..

I'll update you again tomorrow when I finish the window.

Azza not trying to stick my nose in where it is not welcome but a spraypainter mate of mine says the best way to apply fish oil to a car is with a length of small retic hose with a micro spay nozzle on the end of it. You plumb it up to your degrease gun or garden spray unit and let it rip. The nozzle is small enough to fit in door drain holes, ribs in bonnets and panels etc. The longer the length of hose the more places it can reach.
Looks like your having fun anyway

Cheers for that mate. I was tossing up between the spray can or the tin of fish oil.. I only went with the can as it was more practical at the time. I'll keep what you said in mind tho. Thanks

Well tonight I welded up all the rust in the rear windscreen. I took heaps of pics but I can't get them off my phone coz it wont load.. Stupid technology!

It turned out pretty killa.

I'll keep trying with the pics..

Got slack and havnt updated this in a couple days so I thought I'd whack all the new pics and info up tonight..

Well after pulling the rear windscreen out I found a bit of rust. It was to be expected however.. Heres a few million pics of me welding up all the holes. I found it easiest to hold the mig on an angle like the first pics is showing. That way you can just keep building up on the previous weld..

This is the rust that was in the front windscreen. Only a touch of surface rust, no holes :)

Ground it over with a wire brush and a bit of rust converter and she was like new :P
