Believe it or not, it is much easier to learn to spray doing a whole car than from doing bits and pieces. Heaps more time to play with gun settings on the primer coats before you move to final coats.
That's been my experience anyways.

What type of paint?

I'll be doing a few praccy's first, don't worry about that! I've got a hoard of cars out the farm that would look better in a bit of paint. haha.
I already have a spray gun and compressor etc. How much am I looking at for purely consumables?

^^^ That's been answered already. Yup, good idea, my first few attempts, while OK, weren't too flash compared to what I can do now. They where pieces of shite, but still not whole car, really needed whole car to perfect everything, and I mean whole car.

I painted mine in 2k and was very happy with the result, as Yella said, you need to do a whole car to get some practice, my car was basically a practice car for me.
gotta love good gloss off the gun!

orange peel is fixed with FLOW COATING, removes any orange peel. also scratches can be cut and buffed out of 2 pack (as in the clear layers)
the painter in the panel shop next tou our shop, mixes up his own special top coat for acrylic jobs, it had laquer in it and makes it shiny as a tinfoil wrapped turd.
