Will these headlamps fit LJ's - has anyone had experience with this particular brand? Its getting a little dark in the mornings and evenings now and my daily driver needs a better pair of "eyes" so I can see where I am going.

Surfie, I saw a REALLY nice EH with the "crystal" Halogen Headlight inserts today, (EHGRIL's). Brett ( LXCHEV) and deb reckon that they're no brighter than the original sealed beam lights! They were adivsed that they would need to upgrade the relays/wiring to the headlight harness to give the new lights more power to get maximum effect.

I dont know wether these might be the same size as the LJ's lights? I've also seen a set in TUFF's LX hatch.

Cheers!

ebay link

Is that what you are talking about Rob?

I havent used them though I want to buy a set of the aforementioned.

I have Narva H4 Conversion kit similar to the one you showed.
They'r e a direct bolt in though you need to cut a whole in the headlight bucket for provision of the parker lights (if you need them for rwc otherwise id leave them out). The light quality isnt bad...though i would buy the crystal ones because i hear they are better reflectors.

I also stripped the wiring to the headlights and turned it into seperate wires using crimps and that other thing that connects to stuff...lol (i think you know what I mean not sure on the technical talk)

I think they will fit I just want to make sure as the seller didn't know - I know the wiring has to be upgraded to get the best performance out of them - ie a relay as the power to the LJ lights goes through the switch which is very inefficient.

Just put the H4 7" lamps in
But don't use the supplied bulbs

Buy yourself some Narva +50 globes
They will give you about 20m more beam without upping the power requirements of the lamps
So no need for extra relays etc
If your going to use high power bulbs you will need to upgrade the electricals to suit

What Datto suggest ^ sounds good......though Im not up to date with the cost of these new better globes as to know about your total costs etc.
Perhaps try the "supplied" globes with the H4s they'll certainly be an improvement over the old sealed beams and still being only 60/55W, wont demand a wiring upgrade for safe operation. A wiring upgrade would not go astray though, there is always going to be a considerable voltage drop in a non relayed system even when new and it doesnt improve with age.

i have a set of crystal halogens in the LJ, they are better then the halogens in my commodore. We can get em for $100 a pair. but yes you will have to add some relays and i put in some fuses (well our auto elec mate). But the end result is way worth it. if you want pioctures PM me.

I will definitely be doing the relay thing, the original setup is to inefficient. And yes the eyeballs need upgrading too!!!!

Mrs RoDoMo got hers "zapped" 18months ago ($4000) and at the time I thought: "That's a lot of Torana parts". Now mine are going down hill

i sat here for a couple of minutes wondering what you were on about Rod. ^^ i was thinking how do you get your headlights "zapped" and why the hell does it cost so much.. then the obvious hit me :fool: HAHA. im 19 and have got glasses.. but only for reading and while in class, as it is pretty much impossble to read an overhead or slide presentation wihtout them. I have hwat they call a "stigmatism" means my eyeballs are shaped like footys, rather then soccerballs. nice ay :spoton:

Perhaps the surgeon viewed it more as another 1st class air fare!....or a service on the Porsche

I bit the bullet today and bought a set of Narva conversions with H4 55/100W globes. They make a shipload of difference and I haven't even put relays in yet.

Steve

The park lamps are in the headlamps, I had to drill the mounting shell for the headlamp to get the parklamp globes to fit, the radiator support under the headlight cutout has to be drilled as well owing to the globe sticking out past the mounting shell. The headlamps are about 100 percent brighter and the light coming out of them is white, not factory +34 yellow.

Did you have much trouble aligning them? I had to make some fairly large changes to the alignment on mine to get them right. (And I had to pull the adjusters out and clean them up as they were full of gunk that prevented them moving freely).

Just an observation on the subject-I work in a dealership in the country, and we're always buggerizin around with lights; we find that the narva globe dont seem to last quite as long as other brands.Have had a lot of success with Philiips brand ones, and they come in +30 and +50 versions as well as a couple of other variations which i cant remember.Try em if your not happy with the others, any good auto elec. should stock em.

There are no park lamps in the headlamps in an LC so it will simplify the conversion heaps.
