Hi was wondering if anybody had any pics of a group C or A9X font sway bar and mounts. I require any information on these front bars. How the mount to the car and wish bones and if they run in front of the engine. And what sort of bracketry required to mount it.
I have a normal sway bar that mounts to the rear of engine but as i have put extractors on the sway bar does not fit. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Everyone seemed to have their own ideas on bars

I can tell you that the Jansen/Perkins 79 Bathurst A9X had a front mounted bar last time I saw it
It mounted with alloy blocks to the chassis rails and large green brackets to the lower control arms
I don't have any pics here with me at work but Welby might as I sent them to him recently

I have heard that L34 extractors foul the sway bar and yet I have heard they clear.

Maybe the difference is in the engine mount bracket.

I can't remember exactly but I think the HQ in the Torana lowers the motor and that can cause the fouling.

Any thoughts anyone?

These first pics have been borrowed from someone else's thread. It shows a front mount stabiliser bar. The other two are from the Negus Hatch and are the rear mount bar. I have tried to get a closer look at the mount but the picture quality diminishes as you zoom in. It appears to be mounted through a large block onto the chassis. This is what I may to do as I have the same problem as you.

The front mount bar setup ^ is identical in style to the KMac front mount bar setup.

The only front mount KMac bar I have seen is an adjustable type.

KMac did make a rear mount bar that fitted in place of the factory bar but was shaped to provide extra room on the passenger side for header clearance.

On L8 site (Details -> Suspension) there are pics of the front and rear KMac setups. I am running a bigger front bar with rod end drop links (KMac are urethane bushed) and a tig welded diff mount for the rear bar (KMac bolts onto same location).

Howard that doesnt have the big brackets of the pics above (that I can see) ..appears to have a 25mm channel bar like the Whiteline setup holding it at the front.

Thats the original Kmac bracket, they say the newer versions clear the brake ducts.

KMAC supplied most of the A9X teams in the 70's
I love the clamp on the oil filter doing SFA as they haven't positioned it correctly.

Similiar thing to what Peter Hughes did to Bob Janes HQ Monaro..Just some silly information....All they did to his HQ was replace all the rubber suspension components with alloy ones...and it handled like a dream..weird Huh?..Just tightened up the whole unit...they replaced them as they became worn. Cheap as chips..always wanted to try it it to see if it worked.

Welby, that side view of the sway bar looks exactly like the one on my '77 Janson hatch. The alloy blocks look the same as mine.

Hello Michael, i believe they are photo's of the '79 car.

How about some clear photo's from yours?

Did your car come from Rob Hands?

As you can tell by the horrid photos I took them
They are during the resto of the 79 car done by Paul Kramer
Didn't get many front bar pics
Got a few good rear bar ones though

I asked the guy who owns the 79 Janson hatch for some pics, I should have some in the next day or 2 :D

He has also said I can borrow his other spare ex-HDT sway bar setup-KMAC 1 to copy the brackets if I want
