original shock mounts wont let a big tire wheel combo. so i welded a crossmember between the 2 rails and welded brackets to that for the top and welded adjustable brackets to the diff

Perhaps you should chat to dattoman about brakes before you go out and buy the HQ type. I have HQ on my LJ and they are fine, but its good to see if there are other options :spoton: i suspect commodore discs are better??

Chat to dattoman,i used commodore brakes & liked them better than the hq brakes had on before.

Did find out the spring rates to use,the ones I had on the back of mine are way too stiff.

Just looked at mine 250lbs,way to stiff lol.I think it had 160-180lb springs in it before, problem with those was that the car would squat too much & the tyres would rub on the guards.

It did however hook up/launch better with the softer springs.I was told that I should have had the car corner weighted or something to find out the correct poundages for springs to use.

Nice work on those tubs.
I'd decided not to tub my LC, but you just make it look easy... hmmm...
hehe.

Couple of quick questions for you...
What state you from?
What engine you running?
Did you buy your 9 inch new, or 2nd hand, and is it standard length or shortened?

im from sydney. im running a 202 at the moment, the new engine wil be a 202 with sequential EFI, no distributor, and 6 throttlebodies.

i got my 9 inch second hand. its been shortend to suit the LJ and is a bit wider than standard ( its to suit commodore offset wheels)

i am going to get it shortened another 3 inches either side though.

just decided to add a bar for bracing the coilover brackets

what is your diff width?
I think mine is 1370 from memory, wider than lc/j to fit my vt grange rims.Wish I had gone a bit narrower now so I could have tucked the wheels under the wheel arches more as there is no way I want to modify the std arches as I like the way they look std.

not too sure bit its also around about 1370. craft diffs are going to charge me 550 to chop 3 inches off each side. that way i can have the wheels in the gaurds and fit the 15x10s.

Nice.

What are your mounts made out of? What size steel.

Nice work there mate. Mini tubs with coil overs for <$1k, thats just unheard of! I like the way you have done it by modifying and adding to the original steel instead of just chopping the whole lot out and going for pre-rolled sheet tubs. Whats your background in relation to the welding and sheetmetal work you've done or have you just picked it up along the way? Did you do the cage too?

If you take that diff to Craft to get shortened, that will be the 3rd time they have modified it! I got ladder bar brackets taken off it and standard LC/LJ mounts put on originally, then they mucked it up and one side was out so they re-did it. If you are going to run 15" x 10"s with 275's or whatever, I'd consider getting new billet axles made up with thick flange plates and 1/2" studs. I can see you twisting an axle and/or shearing studs pretty easily.

Good advice.

I run a 275 tyre and twisted some stockies now have 31spline mosers, problemo solved :spoton:
