and I guess the diff thing is a bit of a mystery...got verification from holden that the diff is a 3.36 from memory...left the letter at work, definately wasnt a 3.55..so might be off another car, who knows, how accurate are holdens records anyway ?.. and back to the head casting date, does that mean its not the original head? even though it is an Xu1 head.... happy to swap for the right one if anyone has one laying around!..
cant wait to cut some doughies at harrys!!

the body work looks fantastic too with nice even bonnet gaps which is rare.
You'll have to pull your finger out and join the Qld XU1 club now and come for a run.
by the way what is the gearbox in her ? that shifter looks short and sweet!
cheers

Sorry to say that the head can't be original (although it is the correct part number). Pipjones was after one with that cast date last year but I don't know if he is still interested. As I understand XU-1s built between late August and Nov 1972 are generally fitted with a head with a cast date of H252 ie. 25th August 1972.
The external mirror is a Torana type. Check the part number of the stem however because if it is not correct the mirror head will hit the door and damage the paint. It should be P/N 2819794.
Your car should be fitted with dual horns (high and low tones) the horn in the box seems to be the one that is missing in the under-bonnet picture that you posted.
The seat-belt buckle (GM Press) is correct for an Adelaide car of the period.
It is difficult to see what the cable is. Could be hood or choke, but the bracket doesn't look original.
Hope this helps
Bazza
PS. As mentioned earlier in the thread - clear indicators/parkers and plain black fuel cap.

I at least had the decency to answer your questions quickly! bygones.. its home now where it belongs!!!
Anyway off with work for a couple of weeks, will hopefully catch up with a few of you once I get back and get her on the road...... If anyone could let me know how to fit the rear view mirror in the mean time, that would be great. nothing on the stem, but on the inside where it joins the car has, holden, followed by the number 2818020....? either way, needs to be recrhomed, but if its wrong, will have to hunt down another......cheers.

Geez thats a bit rough Adam. And kudu, from my understanding it had been for sale for a while.... and nobody could come up with the cash....! btw thanks for getting back to me on some of the questions i asked you months ago...not.... I at least had the decency to answer your questions quickly! bygones.. its home now where it belongs!!!
First thing - I did answer your questions about the block etc. Your last email (I still have it in my inbox - 4/4/07) you only asked for my mates number and email address. Well I spoke to him and he said he didn't want me to go passing on his details, so I didn't. Your fist email i answered within 10 days. So I didn't think it was to bad since I don't see Nick every week.
Second thing - Yes it was up for sale for a bit, by the guy you brought it off. he brought it off my mate for $12,000 within 3 hours of him deciding to sell it. No one locally wanted to pay the money he was asking because everyone knew what he paid for it and that he was only trying to make a buck.
I have no grudge with you buying it and taking it over the ditch away from its home, I just have a grudge with my mate for not ringing me first when he decided to sell it. So don't take things the wrong way.

the easyest was to tell is if theres a 6 on the adr tag 6= direction turn signals (orange indicators) came in approx 12/72Hi Guys.orange leans are right for lj, lc are clear.
lion cap for gtr and xu-1, only plain black for bathurst models.
Just to confirm what others have said, the amber front blinker lenses were not introduced in the LJ series, until very late 1972 for the upcoming '73 ADRs. It's easy to check if you car should have them or not. If the parking lights are with the blinkers, the lenses should be clear/white, if the parkers are in the headlights, the lenses should be amber.
AFAIK ALL XU-1s from the very early (August 1970) versions have the all black fuel cap from the factory, with no emblem. Dealers often fitted the chrome GTR item (either locking or standard) on request.
I find it difficult to believe LoneOranger's claim of the plain black steering wheel centre cap in a '72 GTR. I was working in a GM-H dealership at the time & clearly remember the first time that I sighted a plain horn cap was in an LH SL/R in March '74. The reason for their introduction was so that they didn't need to make a dozen different badges for the centre cap. They had already made GTS, GTR, SS and Sandman. If it continued they would've had to make SL/R & G-Pak etc as well as the fact that the HQ GTS & SS badges were of a different shape & style (lettering font) to the upcoming HJ GTS or LX SS. It also allowed them to make the wheel available as an genuine accessory on any model. Previously, if you wanted a sports steering wheel on say a Premier, a Kingswood or a Torana SL, it had to come with a GTS (or other incorrect) badge.

My car is fitted with amber lenses and I doubted they were right but had no way of knowing for sure. (Heahlights have been stuffed around with and replaced with H4's, so no help there! )
Production date for my car is 22/11/72 and there is no 6 on the adr plate. Something else for me to swap over, but as I thought that would be the case i have already picked up a set to be ready.
skapinad, sorry for side lining your thread a bit. You have a real nice looking car.
Take the time and make the effort to get all the little things 100% right- it will be well worth the effort. Chateau Mauve is my favourite color- behind Baroda Silver of course!
Cheers,

The cable and bracket is the original optional bonnet release cable. It screws into the driver's side kick panel, up high near the fusebox. You should be able to see the holes in the kickpanel for the screws. It is difficult to see what the cable is. Could be hood or choke, but the bracket doesn't look original.

I agree Dangerous, probably hood, but it is just the fact that the bracket doesn't look like any of the 3 original ones that I have.

the old Supply and Demand !
There are literally hundreds of cars coming in weekly from the US and there will always be some shipping agent wanting to undercut the bloke in front of him.
As for NZ its not too common for cars to come back this way so they can charge what they like!
Cheers
