All the vinyl must have ended up over in the west.
Seen a lilac/light purple hatch with chamois roof
Persian sand hatch with black vinyl roof and the best of all, silver hatch with chamois vinyl roof that had a slash all the way to the front fender a la belair chevies.
yuck.
also, there is a purple ss in freo with a white painted roof and a blue ss i see every so often with a black roof that may or may not be vinyl.

G'day fellas

Just a handy hint for those with a vinyl roof.

To keep it in tip-top condition, use boot polish of the same colour.

I once had an EK ute all hotted up, metalic bronze with vinyl roof and black tarp. I lived at Port Kembla and was only 400 metres away from the beach and 400 metres away from the Australian Fertiliers factory and the Electrolytic Refining and Smelting Co.

So I not only got the salt ladened air from the beach/ocean but also got acid rain.

The roof and tarp were kept in great condition with the black boot polish. :spoton:

I put it on about once every fortnight. First time it really soaked up the boot polish but after that, didn't use much at all.

At no time did the stitching fray or the vinyl perish.

Craig, are you thinking of that green car on the old forums (don't know if it was a hatch of four door) that he retrimmed with a dark green vinyl roof? I'm not a big fan of vinyl roofs, but this car actually looked quite good.

Gone with the old forums sorry. Think it was a WA car (but don't test me on that).

I know a lot of guys hate vinyl roofs because they don't fit into the mucho image but I think they look quite classy and give an appeal thats been lost on newer cars,
I guess its all personal opinion , me I like them. Heres my car I don't know if this is the one Yella mentioned or not.

My LX is soon to receive a makeover but it will still retain the vinyl :spoton:

Hi Pete,
I do remember your car. I would have to agree that it looks classy with the black roof :spoton:

I have to agree, in that particular colour the car looks very good.

One comment, just be aware that rust very often forms under that vinyl. I remember stripping the vinyl off of a few cars to find rust forming underneath. In many cases it was only surface rust but in others it had eaten through.

Cheers
Herne

That's it Pete. Is that your car (dyslexia, just re-read it)? Knew I saw it somewhere, love that car with a vinyl roof. The hack at home had a vinyl roof, but no defects or rust under it when we ripped it off. If anything the paint and bodywork was perfect.

Being an old fuddy-duddy, I like the look of the vinyl roof and the green LX of Petes' looks great. :spoton:

Possibly wouldn't look so good on a lighter coloured car. but as all and sundry know, that's only a personal opinion.

I'm not going to go back through the thread, but I can't recall ever seeing a vinyl roofed hatch, so sorry can't help you there. All the dudes that I'd referred to have already posted here, so if they don't have pics, don't know who would.

We own a 1970 Torana with vinyl roof, wondering if many around? Never seen any others than ours to date.
