A querry to the number of brands availabe for both ball joints and tie rod ends.
Some brand names I have are,

TRW - on ebay
REPCO
Pedders
KOK Group - often on ebay
Power Max - on ebay
Road Safe

And what ever else that isn't mentioned here. Which is quality and what are the benefits of each one?
Or, does it really matter, are they all good?

Thanks

I too am interrested in what makes a good and bad balljoint.

I have heard guys on here say yeah those are quality ones and those are crap but what is it that makes the difference from one to another quality wise?

Hi rodomo.

Dyslexia is bad this time of year.

OEM = Original Equipment Maufacturer

TWR = Tom Walkinshaw Racing

TRW > not sure what this acronym stands for but, they are/were a huge multinational company who, at one time did make the best replacement front end bits.

AFAIK the original bits in Holdens were made in-house by GM-H, these were the best, but of course no longer available.

Just about all the brands mentioned above (including modern TRW) are made in Asia (what isn't nowadays) & I personally haven't found any as good as the original or the old TRW.

I have a pair of Powermax tie rods ends here that I have had for 2 years - they have never been on the car.

I opened 1 of the plastic bags when I got them to have a good look and then they have lived in their boxes in the cupboard for 2 years and on the one I opened, the rubber dust boot has perished badly with splits all around the edges.

Makes you wonder how long they would last in service on a car.

I don't like the idea of Nylock nuts on critical suspension bolts either which most of the cheaper Balljoints seem to come with these days.

Yep had the exact same thing happen to me same brand too.

I installed mine and a week later I checked them only to find them split

Probably nothing wrong with nylocks , they are just not as positive a locking device as a conelock or a split pin especially after being removed and refitted a few times. I would hate to find ot the hard way though.

I was looking at the repco sealed type balljoints a few months back and they still used the castellated nuts.

Hey Datto..... If you do end up getting MOOG balljoints on the inventory. Would you find out if they do an adjustable height lower ball joint in the size to suit holden. These are the "monoball" type the stud is seperate to the balljoint and passes through it, allowing up and down adjustments...
They do them for early chev, late chev as well as chrysler(screw in type), just can't find out specs on any of these to see if they will suit Holden lower..

Cheers Greg..

Current pricing looks sorta OK
Freight is more than the order however
So working on alternate freight arrangements
I'm sure no-one wants to pay $75 per balljoint inc freight
