A mate of mine has a Bathurst LJGTRXU1 1973 in glacier white, it has a tan interior and not black .He has had it since the early 80s and it was bought from a policeman in Boulder ,near Kalgoorlie in WA.He never shows this car and rarely drives it .The number of this car was listed in a book by Fiv.

Is this for a numbers matching car or not???
A lot survive without their true hearts and also missing tags

If they were missing tags then they would be impossible to identify as genuine so that would surely count them out. A car missing its drivetrain, if all numbers on tags, etc. are matching, would surely still be considered a genuine car. Its the body/ID that makes a car what it is, not the driveline.

The car's ID is recorded from its VIN tag so if all the tags and numbers match, thats what the car is. Whether it has any running gear or not, it is what it is. A Bathurst XU-1 roller with tags is still a Bathurst XU-1 is it not?

Was it an XU1 on the production line long before the VIN tags were fitted ?

Al,
The car is incomplete as it left the factory as the HEART has been blown up or stolen!!!!

No, the ID tags make the car. The car is ID'd by the tags, with no tags its nothing. There are plenty of GTR's and XU-1s with stolen tags that are worth no more than an S because of the fact that they can not be identified accurately.

Would be so rushed Loui..all cars after the supposed run had the updated parts fitted...so there for, your car is one too... Dont know if there is a 200 list for the 72 models I am aware of.

HI

I count 244 XU-1s produced by Adelaide between 1 Aug '72 and end Sept '72. They wouldn't all be Bathurst Special specs would they?

big als army, you couldnta put that any better. What about the most legendary of all xu1s, any car that was actually raced when they were new, the track cars that earned the torana its name. most of those survivors are unlikely to still retain its orig engine as drivers did blow them up every other race. These cars to me are just as desirable & worthy of being counted so long as they have their tags/data, just as any other gtr or xu1 is whether or not orig engine is there.

Yes, if you can't identify a car from its tags, you could only say for sure that its a base model so an 'S' at best.

Bazza

Baz, my count was 241 (Adelaide)
August (86)
September (155)

August

1-( 0) 7-(10) 14-( 3) 21-( 2) 28-( 2)
2-( 2) 8-( 6) 15-( 0) 22-( 1) 29-( 4)
3-( 4) 9-( 9) 16-( 2) 23-( 2) 30-( 1)
4-( 9) 10-( 4) 17-( 7) 24-( 5) 31-( 0)
11-( 5) 18-( 4) 25-( 4)

September

1-( 9) 4-( 2) 11-( 9) 18-(13) 25-( 6)
5-( 4) 12-( 7) 19-(11) 26-( 4)
6-( 6) 13-( 5) 20-(14) 27-( 2)
7-( 7) 14-( 7) 21-( 9) 28-( 0)
8-(14) 15-(16) 22-( 6) 29-( 4)

I do find it strange that in TOTAL, BRISBANE + ADELAIDE there were only 2 cars built on the 30-8-1972 and NONE on the 31st August 1972.

Maybe the answers have been starring me in the face all along ?????????

I have classed these 2 as May built cars.

I feel we are close Baz to knowing the truth !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your HELP will get us even closer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As R said dont go writing off your 10/72 just yet Loui !!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8 Adelaide October built cars appear to have September VINS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
