Hey Sudricho, do you have to do an emissions test for your engineer? And is your engine an import?
Thanks

This is from the report.."All emission control equipment fitted to the replacement engine has been transferred and correctly integrated into the subject vehicle. A charcoal canister is incorporated in the evaporate emission control system.E.G.R and P.C.V valves are fitted. The oxygen sensor has been reconnected. The vehicle is therefore assessed to meet the standard required.

The half cut donor car was imported for spares, but never complied in Australia. I don't see this being an issue as it's the same motor/emission gear for the Grey import R33 skylines.

I can see where your coming from Bart with your car/engine mods. Does this mean that you may have to get the expensive emission test done to your car?

Yes I have been told to do it, but it dosnt cost anything I have been told, but yeah sounds wierd as nothing is free.

This what i got
1972 and later model vehicles with substitute engines must meet the intent of the later of the Australian Design
Rules applicable to either:
a) The original vehicle; or
B) The substitute engine.
To ensure continued compliance with emission standards, any replacement engine should come from a vehicle which
is subject to the same or more stringent emission control requirements. An alternative is for an earlier engine to be
upgraded during reconditioning to more recent engine specifications. All anti-pollution devices should be fitted and
functional.
Vehicles manufactured prior to noise and/or exhaust emissions related ADRs must meet certain minimum noise
and emission requirements if the engine modification is to such an extent as to require certification by an engineering
signatory. Engineering signatories will be able to give you more information about these requirements.

Got the engineers report today. It also comes with a new tire card sticker for my VYSS rims and a sticker for the car.

It's like a compliance plate, but an engineers report sticker. Never seen one before.

Also the tappet covers are off getting painted, new seals to be fitted and spark plugs at the same time. Sparky comes tomorrow to finish off a few things...lets see if he turns up.....

Sparky turns up early for a change, because the install that he had to do in the morning was a no show.

About 2 hours into it he gets a call that the guy is there now, so he has to leave. We had just got everything set up, starter power lead out, we found all the wires that we needed and then he had to go again.

I'll try again next week or find another sparky....

That sounds a bit rude if you asked me, so did he say he would leave the other job and come back to your place keeping your original opintment time then ?

I would suggest you offer to give him a hand............ :thebird:

I agree with the above comment, the other guy missed his booking and most tradies would have told the guy to re-book as they had moved onto the next job, its a bit rude he just droped it and went back to the other job

I think the reason that it was booked through his work and he was to do it on his day off had something to do with it. It would also be extra money for him with little work.

I haven't paid him for my work so far, but he has refused any payment, treating it as a love job. I'm at his mercy, cuase I'm not earning much at the moment and funds are depleting very quick.

Even the thought of selling the car came across my mind, but I quickly dismissed this as I have owned the car for 17 years, why would I do something like that when it's so close.

I guess that's what they call....

Frustration cause by the inability to work due to back injury/surgery. No extra income due to this reason and the inability to work on the car and finish the simple things due to pain....

I haven't done too much of late due to recouping from surgery. I have removed the tappet covers so they can get painted and I was surprised to see the engine in good condition apart from the blackish oil (which I will change soon).

I will endeavor to get some work done today as the sparky has let me down, yet again...

While the tappet covers are off I want to run the power supply to the starter motor and the starter trigger wire. This is my only chance as there is no room to do this when covers are on.

Smallish update..

I've been plugging away as much as the pain permits me. I do about 1-2 very steady work and then I must rest for about that time again.

With some help from my mates I've managed to

-Replace the steering rack
-Run starter power and trigger cable where I want it
-Sort out the power cable from alternator to starter motor
-Find the reverse wires from the R33 gearbox and test connect to UC harness (they work)
-Make one good sports dash from 2 that I had
-Fit heater box..This was a bugger of a job. i still need to get one bolt in. I removed the studs and used bolts and nuts instead. What a pain. then I snapped a cable to heater box.
-Tidy up wires to sports dash. Soldered and heat shrink used.
-Fitted the new bonnet rubbers.
-Fitted horn, horn relay and wiper bottle to car.
-Started stripping back old R33 loom to use wires to make new headlight loom for the UC..
-Picked up a new turbo rubber hose from the intake manifold to cross over pipe and clamps.

No pictures and these are the stupid little things you must do eventually.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to the following

-Finish the heater box and fit hoses. The hoses are a pain to get to.
-Work out where I will run the harness to headlights and whatever wires I need to run into car.
-Have a look at the wires for the aircon.
-Sort out wiring for fan motor
-Finish off the starter wire and power for starter.

It's still hard for me to bend certain ways, so it makes most jobs on the car very painful. I just keep changing jobs until the pain hits.

It;s like an elephant this car. One bite at a time.

Someone asked me what was my next project after I finish this car...That made me think....

Update 11/01/09

The plan is to have the car registered by the 26/01/09, so that only gives about 2 weeks.

My back is at a really good place at the moment which allows me to work hard and fast. I still need to be careful with any bending.

Anyway, this what we (I had help) have done..

-Clean and painted tappet covers
-New tappet cover rubbers
-Painted the coil cover
-Starting running wires from headlights to inside the car
-Cut and shut the VL fan shroud to fit

There little ugly things still in the engine bay, but that can be later. That aint gunna stop the car getting registered..

Sparky is coming tomorrow morning and getting stuck into it.

Some pictures..

Nissan translated means "flight" or "to fly", therefore it says Torana as Torana is aboriginal for "to fly"

I almost believe the above statement myself. :spoton:

There was someone that made up his own plate and I will look into that later. Not an issue at the moment, nor is the dirty radiator. This car is been built to be a tidy street car not a show car, but in saying that with some tidy up I could get away with that too.

I got the heater hoses on tonight. Sounds simple right?

Starter motor out, solenoid out from inlet manifold, disconnect 3 plugs and remove harness bracket from top.

2 hours later hoses are in. I was basically lying on the engine. I'm glad that the core is brand new and the hoses are next to new. I wouldn't want to replace them in a great hurry. While I was at it I also fitted speedo cable and tidied up some wires.

Sparky has run harness from headlights, park lamps, blinkers, washer bottle motor, reverse light switch, oil pressure, horn, alt warning and brake failure wires into cabin. He also fitted a 4 pin horn relay.

Tomorrow he comes back to finish in the car. I'll have to take a picture cause it's so neat under the guard now...

Well it's the 26th and even though the car is very close to be finished for rego it still needs a few things, so it won't make the dead line. I wasn't to take my son to his first day of school, but it's not possible.

Too many let downs, no shows and just a lack of mojo to get the job done due to dealing with some personal issues didn't help.

Anyway. All the electricals to get the car registered work. We even got the taken to work using the standard UC tacho and a resistor between the 12v (pink) and the feed from R33 computer (brown).

I also found that narva do a replacement socket or both the front park light and blinker, so we have rewired the whole front end with separate earths, so no more dodgy disco lights at the front. I'm in the process of installing the boost gauge and the car alarm goes in this week and carpet.

If I pull my finger out I will be able to get the car done in a few weeks...We'll see what happens.

Yes it is. I have a few days off after working nearlly 3 weeks straight. Good for the bank balance, but no time/energy to tinker...I'm going to play a little tonight..

Depending on how quick I can get he alarm fitted as that will be the turning point of when the rest of the car can go back together and get registered...

I did drive it down the road to do a u turn for the tow truck. It feels so good when boost comes on. I was only putting as the bonnet latch isn't fitted only the safety.
