Jap-xu1 I understand the stall converta matching, but have you ever seen a car with a very large turbo at the drags(silly question you most probly have).. Even with a big converta that thing is gona take a few seconds of stalling it high rpm for that turbo to spool, doesnt work as simple as when a motor reachs a certin RPM its already spooled...

Its gona need a transbrake and huge converta and it will have to sit there at high RPM stall with the transbrake on for a few seconds befor it spools the turbo to an efficiant enough speed to creat boost sufficent enough to lanch...

Iv seen Alan Rajabs Race car spool for quite some time befor he releases the transbrake to launch...And Alans turbo is no were near that sucker on Gups car..

yeah its definately gonna take time to spool it,no doubt about it.
but it wont lag if the converter will allow it to reach the correct rpm before the 'brake is released.

tiny, free reving the engine will never spool even the smallest of turbos.
you must have full load to get them spinning.

torunya. was that last comment meaning tiny is game for contradicting what i said?

TORANYAs comment was aimed at Tiny going to Bali at such times with the bali 9 and all going over there..

Yes mate thats exactly what i was ayng about the lag, it obviously will lag alot if just floord from the mark till the engine gets to enough RPM for the turbo to spool..

On the turbo spooling only under load i cant understand it properly, After all the exhast is flowing the same under load or free reving.. Why is it that it needs to be under load befor the turbo actualy spools up and creates boost.. Its always been somthing i want to know but have never asked..Is it the fatc that the motor draws mor induction while under load..

perhaps its cause when under load you tend to have the throttle open wider???

ie it needs more flow to keep the revs up under load then when free revin...

the engine does not use as much air/fuel when free revving.

if this was the case a dyno would just be 2 rollers, nothing more.
a dyno has a brake to apply load to the rollers to simulate road driving.

with no load the engine can easily increase revs and therefor requires little air/fuel to do so resulting in not much exhaust gas to spin the turbo.

a real life example of this is when driving on flat hold it at say 3000rpm.
just cruising along you will produce no boost.
approach a hill whilst holding 3000rpm all the way and it will come on boost as soon as you start to climb.

If anyone is interested here are some photos I took of GUP'S car at the Nats. It was still a work in progress but was awesome. The interior was really neat and I really liked how tight the cage was fitted up the front pillars and to the whole roofline. The HQ also had the BIGGEST exhaust pipes I'd ever seen. They must have been atleast 5 inches round

The interior styling wouldn't be my choice, but it's not my car.

I've been capped so I'm not gonna view the video. Does it smoke the tyres up? If so, it's 4psi of boost. 760HP or something.

I received a newsletter relating to PC5 and Gup said that they had ELVIS on the Dyno the other day and the dyno couldn't hold it.
They revved the 540ci to 4000rpm, 4psi and the tyres started to bushfire.
The reading: 760hp and over a 1000 footies.

The dyno shootout at ECR/PC5 next weekend will be very interesting.
