Hmm, I ready big T's thread about how his 308 UC was pinging and that he just turned the dizzy and then ran fine. I tried that and it seemed to fix the problem. I turned it anti-clockwise, and found it ran at normal 900 rpm. Don't know why it was out of tune as terry did a bang up job fixing it. Maybe it is because once I cleaned the spark plugs of the crap build up, the dizzy needed to be tuned anti-clockwise to cater for that?

Did you touch the points at all? Changing the point gap will affect the timing...

Didn't touch the dissy at all. Seem to have got it running ok by turning the dizzy a little bit. I'll see how I go. Thanks to all

Where's that mate?
Looked at the dizzy gear again, 1 little tooth is stripped. Would that cause much of a problem. I got it like that off ebay and put it in and it ran fine?

Thanks Rodomo

Check for spark from coil.
If o.k. check for spark from a plug lead.
If o.k it might be flooded?

The fuel condenser looked abnormally full when I looked at it. I remember 1 little tooth on the dizzy gear was stripped. Could that possibly be the cause? It made no problem before.

Can't check spark now left it at a mates house 10 mins away..

First question, what did u do to get the "Spark plugs have been regapped to run HEI.."
and secondly, WHY?

Pull the cap and have someone crank the motor, watch the points and see if they spark.
P.S. why on earth did you fit a dizzy with a tooth missing????

Nah I've got an electronic dizzy.

I will take the cap off tmorrow and see if it sparks, sweet as.

To re-gap for HEI, I did as you said. Took the plugs out and re-gapped to 1.12 - 1.15 mm as you said.

Sorry if my actions annoy you Terry. My brain has not fully developed yet :P

You will see nothing with the cap off, no spark at least under there.

Why? Should I just stick a screwdriver and get zapped then? Works every time

Sounds like the module (under the dust cover on the outside).
You wont see sparking with no points, best install a plug into a lead and earth out with a jumper lead to check for spark (put ur screw drivers away)
Does the stator (the spiked wheels inside) move sideways and touch each other?

I never said to re gap the plugs, quite the opposite actually.

Oh yeah it was someone else on page 1 who said regap to 1.16 or something. Oops. If the gaps are too far apart could that be causing the problem?
Looks like Ill be having to do some road-side maintainance tomorrow.

I should set the plugs back at 1mm then?

You should replace the plugs, depending on how u opened the gap up you may have damaged them.

Had the NRMA come today cause I get 4 free call outs per year.
Had to turn the dissy basically the other way around to get it to start.
Idles at 1000+ rpm and pings badly under load.

Whats the diagnosis?
