I am currently working at a Large power transformer manufacturing company. After reading some of your occupations. Some might be familiar with my work. Wilson Transformer Company

Well Mr LXSS i would be very familiar with your work as i do a lot at the Portland Alcoa Switchyard where nearly all the Trannies are Wilson's.... Do you get down this way often.?

Started out as an armature rewinder then got bored.
Took up driving trucks. Not bad, good money.
Then became a cop. Good days and bad.
Went back to driving trucks. Less stress.

Ahhh, I know about the Portland Alcoa stuff that is getting done at the moment. I had to touch up some old drawing for them the other week. I am the kind of "in-house designer, touch up, design guru" So i don't really get to travel much with them. I am more involved in procedures and continuous improvement. I am trying to talk them in to letting me go on a business trip to get some photos and stuff that we can use for promotional stuff among the work place (Pretty hard to make a transformer look good though! HAHA Big green boring looking things!!!)

Matt, out of curiosity. Is that for ISO acreditation purposes or other?

Nah, it's mainly to make sure people in the factory are making the products in the way that the engineers wanted them made... Each transformer in different so everything is always changing and we have to make sure the guys are reading the instructions. I have been brought it to make the instructions more visual, as the guys in the factory dont really speak english (lots of imports lol)... So by making it visual it is easier for them to understand and follow... A little f*ck up in welding can cost the company hundreds and thousands of dollars if its not discovered until it goes on site...

I do reference some ISO's but they seem to follow them reasonably well anyway...

Did my time as a dealership mechanic, went out on my own for a while in a workshop at a servo (Way back when servos all had workshops), gave it up as a bad joke - too much work, too cold in winter, not enough money! Went to a smelter for 3 years, doubled my pay, then went off and joined the navy, to do some travelling and get another trade. 7 years there, got out 4 years ago and became a mechanical fitter. Getting itchy feet again now, looking at going back to sea in the merchant navy as a trainee engineer(If I can persuade them to let me in!). I like the idea of the money and time off!

Yup, I have to check construction and civil contractors for compliance before we award contracts. Ours is principally 9001 compliance (Construction). While I have set a system up for a consulting firm, we principally look for 3rd party certification, along with Federal Safety Commissioner Compliance, National Code of Practice compliance, insurances, value for money, etc. I love assessing tenders, that's where you get it right, or give yourself a 2-3 year headache.
