When all of you refer to the muncie are you only talking about the "rock crusher" version with the straighter cut teeth or the std version also. I guess what i am trying to say is a std muncie (m21?) on par with a std toploader, or only the m22 rock crusher???
I am about to start using a m21 so will let you all know how i go with it :spoton:

What about the awesome Mopar box the A833 anything that can live behind a 426 or 440 must be the best :spoton:
Best mate had a ST10 in his hatch which copped an awful caning behind a tunnel rammed 308 and never gave any probs.

The one I was referring to isn't a rock crusher. Just the Standard M21 Muncie with 2.2:1 1st gear and TH350 sized output shaft. You can also get this box with a TH400 sized output shaft and a fine spline input shaft. Option MC7 in HQ was a large output shaft and fine spline input but in M20 ratios set (2.52:1 1st). Even the standard M20 and M21 Muncie should be stronger than a standard top-loader.

That's a big call.

For a production box it would be have to be a Super T10.

I've fitted a few to customer cars, & no one has ever broken one yet !!!

I'm about to do some "normal" muncies for a 68 Camaro for Group N historics, so will find out just how good they are real soon.

Supra boxes are the strongest and there is 2 types of Celica box, a steel case and an aluminium case one.

James

My vote goes towards the supra box - R156?, they can handle a LOT of troque, but if their abused(dropping clutches, burnouts, flatshifting) they fall apart quickly. The biggest problem is if their run with Big HP, and the correct oil isnt used or the correct oil changes performed they can easily sheer teeth off.

Edit: Ninja edited box model - wasnt thinking

Hmmm. A Supra box has trouble lasting behind a 308. Imagine one behind a 600ftlb 427 with slicks on full noise. Probably would last a few seconds.

Imho, for big HP or torque use a specialised box like a Holinger, Jerico or, maybe, a toughened T56.

The M22 rebuilt on the link above sounds very much like what Bob Jane did with his ZL1 Camaro. It put out more hp and torque and the box copped more abuse than just about anything anyone here will ever do, so I think that is a good indication of what the M22 is good for. If the ST10 is even stronger than go for that, but in a weekend cruiser the sound of a rockcrusher would be sweet. Would give you the shits on an everyday driver though.

If you have a look at Kinsler's website they do a TKO 600 5 speed and all the bits for $2,500 new. Freight is dear if you get it by air, about $800.
