ooops, that'll teach me to read all the other posts first........ :fool: Thanks Yella SLuR

Its pretty much modelled on the Sth Aust scheme, and the Tasmanian scheme as well.

There was a very large Aust-wide conference over the weekend of 4/5th March with TAC (Technical Advisory Committee) reps from all over Oz meeting up with the registration bodies of every state, they are trying to bring in a national registration scheme that applies to all modified vehicles, from hotrods to customs to street machines. Im still waiting the official outcome of that meeting. I'll post it as soon as I have some more details on it.

What I can tell you is this.
In regards to the NSRG (National Street Rod Guidelines) which is an agreed nationally accepted set of construction guidelines, it has been fully implemented by ACT and WA 2.5 years ago. NT and TAS 1 year ago.
A 5th state got agreement in principle a few weeks ago, but won't publicly announce until a couple of details are sorted. (It isnt Vic, NSW or QLD).....
These guidelines are at the following site
http://www.dotars.go...Rod_Manual.aspx

Anyway, the upside of this is once this all comes together its the first big step in the right direction for all states to have the same construction guidelines publicly avaliable and applicable to every state, for ALL types of vehicles. Hotrods/streetrods are only the first stage, and probably the most difficult, the rest will be relatively easy compared to what is being done at the moment.

I wouldnt try and lobby the govt for anything too much at this point in time, it will get better, trust me.

The 90 day rego scheme sounds excellent, it looks like its still in the discussion/review stage though so l guess we are 12 months or more from seeing it implemented in Vic. l believe club rego in Vic is currently around $110py so would expect this new scheme to be closer to $200py. One thing thats not clear is whether you will need to remove your existing plates and use CH or similar plates, l am considering buying some custom plates but not sure if it would be a waste of money.

l guess l will just have to wait for the finalised legaslation.

Cheers Simon

Same response from our guys, looks the goods. We'd just prefer it was called registration rather than a permit.

Thanks for that.

I don't care what they call it, it sounds ideal for me. I use the work vans Monday to Friday and have virtually unrestricted weekend use.

My information says very soon, probably within 6 months.

sounds great, but do we get to use our current number plates(ie: custom plates) with this new proposed system or do we have to go onto a "special plate", I'd like to keep the plates I've got. I know of plenty of people with custom plates that would love to go onto the proposed rego sceme but will be reluctant to give up thier custom number plates.

Also the custom plate values will die in the ass if we can't (just a thought as some peolple have paid big money for some of thier custom plates and may not be happy not being unable to use them)

No.
You'll be issued with a whole new plate, specific to this particular permit scheme.

:furious: :furious: :furious: but I want to keep the custom plates I have and go on the proposed sceme, looks like its going to cost me to keep the plates as I'll have to stay on full rego. pity as I only drive the car about 15 days per year  :banghead:

They make up want you want in full size, slimline or Euro.

That's actually quite a good point... one of the guys at Heathcote today had some fake plates on his trailer to match the ones on his Red 2-door, looked a treat.

At burnout comps etc you can just bolt the CRITTA plates on Steve, I don't think there are any rules/laws against doing that at events... if you can run with no plates you can probably run with the wrong plates.

You could always come on over to SA, and keep your custom plates on Historic Rego! :D

getting a tad off topic here - sorry! but for those thinking of putting on custom plates for meetings eg drag day etc then you MUST remember to take them off the car again if you intend to drive it home (doesn't apply to trailered vehicles obviously)

This is the biggest downfall of changing plates is - If you take non reg'd plates on the road you will be booked.

Cheers
Herne

Yes that's a good point, and sometimes it's very easy to forget to remove them.

Get magnetic stickers made the size of your number plates. I was quotes $40 for a pair, or $25 a set if I get 5 orders.

In our club the commitee is decideing what you can and cant do to keep your club rego , They claim they have the power and if you dont comply they report you and have your rego taken away , Some of the rules, must show your car at club show days , Must go on so many club runs a year , must attend so many club meetings and many other stipulations otherwise your car is inellegible to be regoed on club rego , They say they have been contacted by QLD transport and have to set some criterea so that not every body can get it easily and have to comply with some set of rules that they determine , TREX

Bit unfortunate Racyrabbit, what's the use of having people on Club Runs that don't want to be there? Unfortunately yes, the scheme can also be used to play Club politics.....yuck!!!

Here are the rules so far , Have to be a financial and active member for min 3 months before , must attend 3 meetings first , car must be displayed at a club event within these 3 months , car must be displayed at annual show , must go on club runs and failure to do so means you cant have special interest vehicle rego , I think i was only one that put my hand up against they didnt even count , And the way they were talking they want more restrictions , TREX

Racyrabbits rules quoted are for QTCC only not other clubs. They are also based on the QLD Monaro clubs rules.

QTCC has relaxed the rules, it was 3 meetings or 3 events within the first 6 months of membership. The reason for this is so that person actually supports the club and doesnt just join and then bugger off never to be seen again. Isnt the reason to join a club, to be with like minded people?
Also if that 1 person is caught driving when they shouldnt be, the WHOLE club loses the privilage not just that 1 person.

You have to remember the discounted rego is a privilage NOT a right.
Those that dont like the rules can always join a club that doesnt have the restictions.

^ totally agree Tinks

Our club has introduced similar rules for the same reason after a couple of people abused the privilage a while ago.
