Historic Rego for Torana's

Its pretty much modelled on the Sth Aust scheme, and the Tasmanian scheme as well.
There was a very large Aust-wide conference over the weekend of 4/5th March with TAC (Technical Advisory Committee) reps from all over Oz meeting up with the registration bodies of every state, they are trying to bring in a national registration scheme that applies to all modified vehicles, from hotrods to customs to street machines. Im still waiting the official outcome of that meeting. I'll post it as soon as I have some more details on it.
What I can tell you is this.
In regards to the NSRG (National Street Rod Guidelines) which is an agreed nationally accepted set of construction guidelines, it has been fully implemented by ACT and WA 2.5 years ago. NT and TAS 1 year ago.
A 5th state got agreement in principle a few weeks ago, but won't publicly announce until a couple of details are sorted. (It isnt Vic, NSW or QLD).....
These guidelines are at the following site
http://www.dotars.go...Rod_Manual.aspx
Anyway, the upside of this is once this all comes together its the first big step in the right direction for all states to have the same construction guidelines publicly avaliable and applicable to every state, for ALL types of vehicles. Hotrods/streetrods are only the first stage, and probably the most difficult, the rest will be relatively easy compared to what is being done at the moment.
I wouldnt try and lobby the govt for anything too much at this point in time, it will get better, trust me.

My information says very soon, probably within 6 months. The 90 day rego scheme sounds excellent, it looks like its still in the discussion/review stage though so l guess we are 12 months or more from seeing it implemented in Vic.

sounds great, but do we get to use our current number plates(ie: custom plates) with this new proposed system or do we have to go onto a "special plate", I'd like to keep the plates I've got. I know of plenty of people with custom plates that would love to go onto the proposed rego sceme but will be reluctant to give up thier custom number plates. My information says very soon, probably within 6 months. The 90 day rego scheme sounds excellent, it looks like its still in the discussion/review stage though so l guess we are 12 months or more from seeing it implemented in Vic.
Also the custom plate values will die in the ass if we can't (just a thought as some peolple have paid big money for some of thier custom plates and may not be happy not being unable to use them)

No.sounds great, but do we get to use our current number plates(ie: custom plates)
You'll be issued with a whole new plate, specific to this particular permit scheme.

At burnout comps etc you can just bolt the CRITTA plates on Steve, I don't think there are any rules/laws against doing that at events... if you can run with no plates you can probably run with the wrong plates.

You could always come on over to SA, and keep your custom plates on Historic Rego!but I want to keep the custom plates I have and go on the proposed sceme, looks like its going to cost me to keep the plates as I'll have to stay on full rego. pity as I only drive the car about 15 days per year

This is the biggest downfall of changing plates is - If you take non reg'd plates on the road you will be booked.

QTCC has relaxed the rules, it was 3 meetings or 3 events within the first 6 months of membership. The reason for this is so that person actually supports the club and doesnt just join and then bugger off never to be seen again. Isnt the reason to join a club, to be with like minded people?
Also if that 1 person is caught driving when they shouldnt be, the WHOLE club loses the privilage not just that 1 person.
You have to remember the discounted rego is a privilage NOT a right.
Those that dont like the rules can always join a club that doesnt have the restictions.

Our club has introduced similar rules for the same reason after a couple of people abused the privilage a while ago.
