well a fair bit has happened to this old girl this year,I didn't like the idea of putting the battery in the boot being a wagon, it would loose some of its practicality with space etc so I decided to adapt a later model battery tray area instead

I stareted with a space that looked a bit like this -

then after a few moments with a plasma cutter it looked like this -

then after some work it ended up like this -

I also decided to paint the inside of the headlight housings to blend in with the colour with the grille better

Before -

After -

Then it was time to throw some better wheels on it, get it blue plated and registered, it jumped through all the hoops with no dramas and then it was registered

I have already racked up over 700kms on the old girl and it hasn't missed a beat, and its more econimical than my BA XR6 Falcon. next step is to sell off the Fraud, and spend some money on the diff and maybe clear some debt while I'm at it

Very tidy Jason. Never seen that done with the later-model battery location. Damn good idea

The battery tray ended up being quite tricky to do, because the headlight on the VC is taller it's sits lower and would foul on the battery, I ended up having to mount it about 75mm lower and 30mm forward from the vn position, but I got it working in the end. Cheers for the comments guys

Can you get the battery out easy enough, or do you need an engine crane?

just a slight tilt backwards and the battery lifts straight out, just like in a VN

I bought a rusty VK wagon for motor / gearbox once. I had the rest of it sitting around for a while and decided it would make a fine panelvan with original length front doors and Brock flares. I told this to the guy I sold it to and he said he had a write-up and pictures on one like that in a magazine at home.

He dropped around another day and showed me. It was white and looked sensational. Best looking early Commodore custom build I've seen by far.

That's what I thought you were going to do when I read 'Shaggin Wagon'.

I drove a windowless HJ Panel van for 10 years, till the poor old girl rusted into the ground.

Great body style for a single bloke lol. Go to the pub or a party and you're set for the night.

Love this thing... Saw it at a show in Adelaide once. Would prefer it without the flames, but otherwise it's beautiful.

That VK is pretty cool, there was a panel van version of the opel Rekord that the VB/VC was based off, there was also a 2 door opel commodore in Europe. the thought of bringing one in to aus, or at least the side panels and grafting them into and aussie one has crossed my mind, but for now it will stay pretty much as it is.

It didn't have flames when I saw it but I guess it's probably the same one as it was white.

I seem to remember it had some blue on it on the sides.
