I don't think we need to make this thread political.

I don't care who is in government, I just want them to do a good job for all Australians, but that it not what this thread is about.

It's about how you would spend the money, so try and be objective otherwise the admin team will just close the thread.

I'm single, work fulltime, got 2 dependant kids and a grandson who live with me and I support, daughter is at uni, 2nd year nursing and son unemployed since 3 months ago(gets nothing at all from the govt). This will help me put him through a TAFE course to help get a start as a merchant seaman and hopefully get the little bit of rust out of the Torry's front guard.
I don't know if it's right or not, but it WILL help me.
Cheers
Muz

1. The political side of all this shits me. It doesn't matter how much people whinge or argue - nothing is going to change now, or in the future. You just gotta leave all the decision making to those in parliament who have the power. For your avarage Joe, you just gotta do what you gotta do. Take the good with the bad. Personally I'm stoked to be getting my 900 bucks of cold hard cash! It's like the one bonus of the year, the highlight of endless bills... gimme gimme gimme....

2. How to spend it? We're heading over to Western Australia for a weeks holidays, so the money will be spent well I reckon... anything left over (hahaha) I'll whack onto the credit card or the home loan.

3. Totally agree with Skapinad - this sponsorship idea for Channel 7's court battle to ensure adults only lesbian Home & Away episodes has some real potential :)

Kevin made a big anouncement on cable broadband today....i didn't realise he was back in the country.

Its funny that his popularity is so high...I thought Australians were free thinkers. He can't buy my vote....no matter how much cash he splashes around. He started to show his true colours when he went off his head at the RAAFie chick on the plane to London...he is a media savvy dick head.

Bags puting this money on the credit card.

Any chance you are a single income family? There is a payment also of $900 for families with one income earner must be eligible for Family Tax B to get it

I don't get the tax bonus payment one but hubby does and I'm quite sure I'll find something to spend it on for him.

So did you go 'Woot' Heath? lol

haha I did today when I realised that I will actually have change from my grant after insurance for the rana. No complaints there, I had a lot of luck today :)

To even it up I will probably write it off tomorrow on its maiden voyage.

And my best mate recently bought a TIG and today came home with a bottle for her, so I don't need to buy my own welder, just some more brown bottles to sink while we work on each other's cars :D

Love it!

Yes.. its not a 'tax refund' for people who have paid tax.. the reason they use the tax refund to see if people are eligible is because they just want evidence that you have worked last year.. and if you have, youll get some cash payment depending on the level of your income..

Hopefully youll get it

I'm in the same boat, Mitch, I earnt under $6000 last year (just below the tax free threshold)

It would be nice to get something, it'd be going straight back to the government though ($434 worth of fines racked up on the weekend...)

All of the altercations with the law happened in SA... $120 for not having my licence on me on Thursday at work, $310 at 4.30am on Monday morning on the freeway coming into Adelaide, doing 125km/h...

MESSAGE TO THE AUSTRALIAN PUBLIC

Some more good advice:

The federal government is sending many of us a $900 rebate.

If we spend that money at K-Mart or BigW, the money will go to China ..

If we spend it on petrol it will go to the Arabs, if we purchase a computer it will go to Taiwan,

If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala,

If we purchase a car it will go to Japan,

If we purchase useless crap it will go to Korea and none of it will help the Australian economy.

The only way to keep that money here at home is to spend it on wine, loose women and beer, since these are the only products still produced in Australia.

Thank you for your help.

Kevin Rudd & Wayne Swan .
(Australian Prime Minister & Australian Treasurer)

A week on the Gold Coast, all next week.

Organised before the anouncement, will definately help with the entertainment cost.

$900 buys quite a lot of stripper time (or so I'm told) :D

Mine is going in the bank, with the rest of the "reassembling the LJ" fund!

I love the anti-labor feel from some posters, its funny how they have forgotten the last 20 years and realised it has been both liberal and labor governments whom have put us in this position. Are people really surprised that any government is looking at the short-term solution?

Australia has to now go into a deficit, The government (as other people have said) should be spending the money on infastructure projects Roads, Hospitals, Enironmental sustainability etc. BUT they should also have alot of money ready in their piggy bank, to bail out the many families and low income FHB (first home buyers) who may experience the struggle of this recession which is yet to come. The Scary thing is Australia isnt officially in a recession yet, so who knows how bad its going to get.

End of rant

As for the question again im putting my money into short-term bonds, hopefully planning to pick up my first home for a bargain at the end of this year/start of next. I hope all of you guys think wisely before spending.

Jaime
