I will get some photos from a rust free original hatch to show where the seam goes if any body would like. My dad has a UC at home which is totally clean of rust. My ss hatch is rusty on one side only, so I could put these on too.

I hope these pics work,
These are of my dads UC hatch. Its the only rust free hatch ive even seen but im sure there must be a few out there. It had been rust proofed from new(or soon after). the paint is very shabby with some surface rust startin to occur as the car has just been sitting in his shed for the past few years. Its getting a V6 motor put under it in the near future (hopefully). If anyone requires more pics please let me know and i will be happy to take a few more shots.

Yeah i might be doing the same in my hatch, but am stil hopeful the panel beater im using can rebuild it all with metal.
I've already threatened my dad that if his hatch is stil sitting there in a few months with nothing getting done to it, im going to cut the pillars out and get them welded into my SS. lol It might encourage him to get the motor put in!

Yep thanks for the pics orange. There defintley seems to be a step in the rear quarter section where the top section meets this. Just got to work out exactly how to achieve this!!!!!

A picture of a raw quarter panel courtesy of Makka Enterprises.
This panel is for sale in another section.

Does anyone know an approx cost of getting one of the replacement panels shown by Makka fitted to a hatch? or even just the pillar section of it?
I havnt had any experience with rust repair, however im looking at getting my hatch repaired within a few months via either repair of the original pillar, or maybe replace with entire panel.
Makka, i couldnt find where you have the panel for sale, could you email me how much you are asking for the panel, so i can figure out how much my repair options may cost me.
Thanks
Matt
