Hey guys,

just browsing through VPW, ive decided that i 'need' some stuff :P

Just a few qs..

i wanna get a carter electric fuel pump, though i cant decide between

Electric Fuel Pump 72gph 7psi $112.89 or Electric Fuel Pump 100gph 7psi $120.79.. The site says 'The 72 GPH ideal for Street/Strip applications or the 100 GPH for race applications'. I plan to use my car for a bit of circuit racing, should i go for the 100gph one? I also drive this car everyday. This is with a 160rwhp 202 with triple SUs.

I also wanna get the alloy rocker cover, but in another thread, high_rpm mentioned that it doesnt fit due to the heater which needs to be modified. Has anyone done this, and is there much to it?

Thanks in advance.

The 72GPH pump will empty your Torana fuel tank in less than 60 minutes. I think that will be adequate.

less than 60 minutes? that would be flat to the floor? driving round town it wont will it?

im just after a nice electric fuel pump that will also suit racing every now and then..

Hi there draglc,

I have an LC with near enough the same rwhp
& triple su's also. I have been using a carter 72gph
for about 4 years now, it has been great ! No probs
with fuel delivery, oh.. just a tip I rubber mounted mine,
much quieter that way.

I just went and had another play with the tappet cover still couldnt get it on but you might be able to fit it all in by taking the heater box out then putting tappet cover on i know this is a pain... also theres no way it would go on will rollor rockers as im only trying with normal rockers. I'm sure you will figger something out.

High RPM, you say it wont go on with roller rockers?? Why not??

I have Yella Terra roller rockers on mine and the KC Alloy rocker cover, i had no trouble getting it on my motor... Unless i've mis-interpretted what your trying to say??

Keithy,I think they mean fitting that r/cover in an lc/j due to it being a tighter fit b/c of the firewall & heater clearance.

draglc,

My carter came with reasonable instructions & a
mouting bracket. Also just a thought on fitting the
alloy cover [i'm still using chrome one with my rollers]
if it's only by a small margin, that it wont clear the heater
box, it may be possible to tilt the engine forward just
enough by temp jacking gearbox up[ if u have engine driven
fan careful of radiator damage], or using a block of wood &
jack, temp remove drivers side engine mount, lowered very
carefully , may just get clearance.

I've looked at mine, i think once the covers on, engine/gearbox
mounted normally, it should just clear heaterbox.
hope this helps,good luck.

When I had my six you just had to muck around with the way you angled the r/cover b/c it would get stuck on the the lip or or the r/rocker but eventually it would go on.I had to use 2 cork gaskets as the first time I ran the motor the rockers were hitting the baffles. After having a solid cam I ended up getting a rubber gasket which was thick enough & reusable, just what you need for a solid cam engine lol.

Hi draglc,
I had to modify my heater box (LC) to get the KC alloy rocker cover to fit (using roller rockers). Just NO WAY it would fit otherwise. I can send some pics if that helps, when I get home. PM me your email address if you want.
I'm going the VK EFI route (inspired by sammy thx Web site here)... if I ever get the F&%$^ing thing finished that is...getting close now tho.

Hello draglc

I went out this arvo, took a couple of photos for you.

I rubber mounted mine so it is just visible, and level with the fuel tank.
It comes down to personal choice, though. You will notice, I have one
fuel filter between tank, and the pump.. and I have second fuel filter
in the engine bay,as close to the carbies as possible.

Hope the photos are ok. :D

looks fine to me. thats similar to where 'm gonna moutn my fuel pump.

just a q, any reason you didn't mount it up the other way, motor facing up?? that way you could have the fuel part lower and the motor up higher, out of harms way....

i'm planning on using something like that to keep my surge tank full and another for the nitrous side of my fuel system, will use a sb chev mechy pump for the carbs....so i gotta fit two pumps, a surge tank and a filter or two in that area....yay.
