Ill post it up when im ready chop, I want to see how it performs before I.share.

If you are that keen, do what I did and research everything, measure, machine, measure chop etc etc.

All details in good time, for now its nice to be semi original (convwrsion has been done before, so im not the inly one)

It's not a conversion I'll be doing in any time soon. I'm over 13" wheels and tyres. I'm just curious as to what can be done differently.

Well, one thing after the other with this!

Since I needed to get custom brake lines made up, I decided to go for braided.

Then as a result I thought the old hard lines looked shitty.....

So cue me, some steel tube, tube bender and double flare tool spending a couple hours on saturday knocking up some new lines.

Ignore the fact that things still look a bit grubby!

where is that little flipping the bird smiley when you need it! haha.

Also discovered that my 16" wheels touch on the calipers..... only by about 2mm, so going to die grind a small section of the caliper.

The mounting face of the wheel is just a bit too wide, so calipers off for a repaint after grinding.

I'm hoping there's plenty of spare metal on the part of the caliper you intend on trimming.

alright, after numerous setbacks, arguments and general lack of motivation,

I got stuck back into the LJ over the christmas break.

Its back on wheels for the first time in months!

brake calipers required re-drilling for the inlet due to fouling on the bump stop pad/bracket (upper) on full lock.

things achieved over the last week-

Clutch linkage completely re-built (rattrap) I replaced all the pivots with fresh bolts, machined rod etc and welded up all the old holes + redrilled to remove any elongation.

Front caliper setup finalised and bolted in place for the last time! (hooray!)

Radiator and thermo back in, new radiator hoses, rerouted thermo controller

Ordered the rocker cover spacer (wont clear headstuds without it.... I found that interesting, a "race" fabricated rocker cover and it doesnt clear headstuds... space is $70 with new bolts)

Finally made some moves with the new extractors, header plates are all ready to go (had them cut ages ago) have run lines of weld and ground back in order to make a flush mounting with the new inlet manifolds. These will be finished in the coming weeks, then off to be ceramic coated.

Rebuilt the steering column, machined up a new plastic bush for the base of the column shaft, removed old linkage sections from base and welded together, gave the rack a quick once over, steering has ZERO play! I was amazed.

Exhaust parts picked and ordered.

So now its just waiting on the new extractors to be done, then carbies will go on.

G'day Chris, i agree it ridiculous about the rocker covers not clearing head studs, there was a much better looking type for sale a little while back, not sure if they would clear head studs either though, and they were just as expensive(maybe more)
are you still selling those exhaust flanges? how thick are they?

edit..

here's a link for the other style rocker cover. i just think it looks better by kind of keeping a bit of the original shape

Yeah its a bit dissapointing really, they were reasonably helpful though, but they should be considering the price hey.

Those ones in the link look cool, but I think I like the smootth look a bit better.

I think I got them cut in 12mm, but can do any thickness (have a cad file)
Id have to get 5 cut to make it worthwhile though.

A CNC/Laser cutting joint in Western Sydney, the cost per unit is cheap, but postage/fuel to drive there and pick them up makes them a little more expensive, still cheaper than most places though

Car may or may not be back on all four wheels for the first time in 6months+ :clappin:

Started to smooth the inlet manifolds for HPC coating, just need to decide on chrome finish or black?

Old manifolds were black and looked good, but I think chrome finish may be cooler?

I reckon chrome would look really killer on your car bud but it's up to you at the end of the day.

Sanding inlet manifolds sucks hey I have spent about 20 hours on my new one and it's still not to the standard I want it
