Reckon SA Police would get you for the timber steering wheel, the exhaust is a maybe, last I can remember was that it has to exit past the last opening to the cabin. The drop tank could go either way. Surely the STA should have a website with this info somewhere.

Id have a close look at your back tyres too. looking a bit low on tread. Thats the 1st thing police look at.

I agree they will pick what they want.

I find if you go over it an try fix all the little stuff (wheel bearings, interior light, ect)
but leave them something to find (missing brake pedal rubber?)

I rocked up for a blue slip with my Poo Brown EH, primer grey racing stripes, fox tail, the lot...I could see the grin as it rolled into the workshop...he thought it would be easy....he had to look for ages to find something..in the end he decided it had an oil leak and a loose wheel bearing...leak degreased and bearing adjusted while on the hoist and I was away.

dont forget the best defect of all... threads hanging from the seatbelts!!!

My 1st LX Hatch was defected in Melb, the missus was driving it.
They pulled her over, asked her to show hi & low beam, "no" hi beam so he wrote that, on the canary (Unroadworthy sticker colour yellow in Vic) & nothing else.
Probably thought it was his lucky day for easy work.
20 min's i later went to Vic Roads screeming blue murder, that the plod had no idea what he was doing, "Der" you must have ign on, to work hi & lo in an LX. (And beetles)
Guy said my wife should know about it, like yeah, hows it go key, petrol, works!
Anyway took 3 months but he got the canary removed without an inspection.
They can put what they want, but it is a legal document that must be correct also!
Saved a few buck's that day!

in Vic they have to find three things to make the vehicle go for an inspection...my 3 pissed me off to no end...managed to fix 2 on the spot but still had to go get a RWC.
1. LHF indicator not working (cleaned dirt out when i got home)
2. No Brake Pedal Rubber (in glovebox, back on in 30 seconds)
3. No RHR Brake Light (popped light back in holder)
4. Guage Holder Dangerous (how the f^%# is a thin piece of curved metal dangerous in an accident, i'd be a little more worried about the rest of the car)

But it wasn't my day cop had to get his quota up for the day. Traffic cops....what more can you say. There is a traffic cop down here who's road car blows smoke and is a shitter, waiting for the day that gets a defect notice.
Really it depends on the cop on the day.

you will get defected for your steering wheel i got a warning on mine but just say your getting your genuine xu1 wheel restored and it should be back on in a couple of weeks and they will let you go if there not a fembit :P another thing is have the car registed in your dads name so if they ask you any questions just say "i dont know its not my car" normally if your nice to the cop they let you on your way be a smart arse and they will make you pay

theres a certain diameter for the steering wheel in each state and it has to have a padded centre the will pick on ya for seats and ripped carpet
you are aloud to have a dumper but it has to be a certain distance from the wheel arch all the rules vary from state to state so check up with who ever does all the road traffic stuff

Just get it inspected & fix what they tell you to just don't argue or be rude & it should work out fine.

well im not gonna go to the place now which we call it Regency where they inspect your car when you get the worse defect notice....cos i got rust which i will be getting it cut out and get new door trims with GTR...also backseats and may get a new steering wheel once i get defected....im not just gonna go to regency if it isnt defected anyway....i just wanna check if drop tanks are illegal but i see the exhaust is totally legal so im happy...
