My insurance with NRMA Vintage, Veteran & Classic was due for the SS in January and for 25K it was $151 but I wanted to upgrade it.

I upgraded it to 35K and all I had to do was answer a few questions on its condition, on what I had done to it and if there were any mods.
I offered to email pics but they were not needed.

For 35K I know pay $199. My SS of course is on NSW Historic rego.

I get the salvage rights, they will pay me for any panels that I have to repair my car if in a bingle.

There is also $3,000 coverage for overnight accommodation, mechanical repairs if needed, towing to home and a rental car. To get this coverage the car has to be over 100Ks from home.

Just recently one of our car club members broke a gear-stick linkage on his Triumph sports car and they paid for his
o/night stay and a rental car to get him back home.
He opted to go back and repair the car himself as he will get it back quicker. His choice.

Regards ... Barry

Dont think you will get insurance at your age... Might be wrong though. No insurance company will give you a reasonable price at 16...

Barry we have the same insurance as you do on our EK.

That's probably the best option. My wife was 23 when she got her first car a $2K Datsun Sunny, they wanted to rob her blind for comprehensive insurance. So we insured it in my name (had rating 1 for 3 years with RACQ), cost us $227.00 and listed her as the main driver. When she turned 25 we insured it in her name and they automatically gave her a rating 1.
Don't know if being a girl helped her get that.:dontknow: Be aware that was 18 years ago and things have changed, so shop around and ask.

Thats shit about GIO.

Im currently insured with them until August with the LJ, 20k, salvage rights and all the bells and whistles for $300 odd dollars.

I was planning on having the ute insured with them too.

That said, Im looking to swap my house insurance to shannons at the end of the month, so they might give me a deal.

Has anyone made a claim with LSV yet. It's all good and well to have higher cover at a cheaper premium but it means squat if something happens they give you the run around to try not to pay you out. I've heard nothing but good things about claims with Shannons, i think i'd pay the extra premium for the piece of mind.

Hi Mick
Give LSV a ring & i am sure you will get a higher than 15k on your insurance.

cheers Keith

i would keith, but the lj is kept on the street and lsv wont insure it if it aint garaged. Im still happy with $8k - that would get me bout even if it was written off or stolen and provide enough for a replacement.
i got no issues with shannons but yet to make a claim on the lj (touch wood) so we will see what happens in the future.

OLJ - their paperwork talks about the 'mulit-policy discounts' so you could be on a winner with shannons taking over your torana policy.

j7723 - if you ever have any dramas with claims or arent happy take them to the insurance ombudsman or make a formal complaint. I know its not always practical, i had massive dramas with Just Car when i had my VL Calais stolen and needed the measly payout they gave me to buy my LJ, i didnt have time to make a complaint - but if i was in a better cash posiition i would have def taken them to the ombudsman.

i swapped all my insurances over from nrma general and vintage and veteran to shannons years ago as i got a better deal on the policy..nrma would not cover my garage...added bonus with shannons is green slips if you have the car insured with them...330 bucks for a green slip on a harley is good value.

I have laid up insurance with LSV for $94. COver for 25k, all parts, salvage rights, fire/theft and even for when its being transported. Shannons wanted $270, wouldnt cover my parts for theft or fire, and had bugger all idea what an SLR5000 was.
Work that one out.

But it's just not worth it. I know I'm a careful driver, the problem is the other clowns on the road you have to worry about and have no control over.

*THAT* is the issue mate...
I've never insured my cars for any reason other than to protect myself from becoming a victim of other peoples stupidity.

All i can say is Insurance is a necessary Evil. Do your research, Ring around, DONT ASSUME ANYTHING - ASK, and forget what your "Mates" tell you... find out for yourself. You will find someone keen for your work and they will do the right thing by you as Shannons did by me.

Oh.. and one last thing i've found.. you MUST shop around EVERY YEAR as sometimes you will find insurance companies will jack up premiums to repeat customers, but give better rates to NEW customers to lure them in.
Dont be lazy and just renew... get on the phone and ring around for quotes.

Cheers

This is good advice, however no matter the company, premium etc. the policy is only as good when it's being 'used' - talk to your preferred panel beater. Some wont deal with specific companies. My preferred crash shop wont deal with AAMI and CGU because they make claiming a ridiculous exercise and demand cheaper prices.

Some companies force crash shops to bat against eachother to win work, so to reduce costs to the insurance company, the job can be compromised - customer loses thanks to the ins company..and you have no choice where you want YOUR car repaired! Go figure? last time I checked, the client is the customer yet some companies wont give you the choice where the client wants to take THEIR pride and joy for repair!

There are good ones, Lumley Special Vehicles, Shannons and Allianz - for the busy person, and if you can afford the $30 fee, a broker is a good idea too. Just stipulate whatever criteria is important to you (ease of claims, premium costs, valet service, choice of repairer - whatever) and let them do the rest.

In my opinion, good reputable companies with great products are worth the extra dollars compared to el cheapo insurance who will find any loop hole to get out of a claim, or send you off to a dodgy crash shop.

i deal with insurance companys every day
lets say you own a brand new commodore
nrma wants you to short cut quater panel even after the mta and holden states that it shoulded be done you have to change the whole side ,all the rest come in the same path
lumleys want you to change the whole side quater ,cant rail, center piller and front door piller because they state thats the way it should be and is lot stronger aswell ,every insurance cuts your quate down but still wants show room finishes ,i have not had a quate chopped buy lumleys and are one of the best for insurance companys for panel shop, soon all insurance companys will be like nrma where the repairer has to quate online and the cheapest quate get the job and thats where the trouble starts ,they will cut corners every which way they can so how can trust that your car will be repaired 100%when joe the bog man just slaps the panel full of bog paints it ,then out the door ,would you prefere new parts or second hand shit on your car
