if its just a standard or even mild 253, i think the factory electronic dizzy(bosch) and a good coil will be fine. i wouldnt touch those aftermarket ebay ones with a ten foot pole, and im sure if you do a search all the results will agree(pm sent)
put an ad in the wanted section, someone prob has one laying around, or scan ebay for a factory electronic dizzy

I bought one 2 years ago now unfortunalety after I heard all the bad stories.

But as soon as I installed it, I felt an immediate improvement over the possibly worn
old Bosch origal I had, and its still going strong(knock on wood).

Lucky? Dont know but I assume as with all things there are varying quality products out there.

I bought a bosch one off ebay for $118. They were fitted to VC-VH blue motor V8 holdens incl commodore and statesman. I also bought the correct coil for it off Ebay for $18. Scan ebay..........read the various posts on this site about dizzy's and go for it, thats what I did. General opinion is that the Bosch ones are a good thing. I'm going to fit it to my LX 253 red motor.

good luck!

VC, VH and VK E.F.I
VK carby had E.S.T, I'm not sure if ALL were E.S.T? but they wont suit.
VK E.F.I have different mechanical advance (less) and different part No.

Got a bosch HEI elec dizzy of ebay, came out of a VC SL/E, im told, its for my 253 LH
number on the cap is 9231065510
numbers on the body read (small symbol here) 9230064907
under that U-TGFU8<-
under that GMH 92009979
and 248 virtically beside them.
The cap is huge, can this n the plastic adaptor that the rotor sits in be replaced with a smaller one?
it doesnt appear to have a chance of fitting fit, what are my options?
Cheers Waz

Why, the last three I have done I only swaped the dizzy, kept all the points coil, wiring etc in situ.
Performance for a street car on unleaded is miles ahead of the old points.

You can fit a smaller cap and a Ford rotor button I believe.
I'm sure the part numbers are on this forum.
Damned if I can find them though :banghead:

I am going to do another V8 next week, will let you know if the old rotor and cap fit but for sure XD/XE V8 cap and rotor for the conversion to retain spark leads.

right Kev so old coil n cap should fit, the new leads would be better right?
So as far as modification n that its just new cap n wire it up?
the rotor is too big to fit in the small cap n would sit too high, if u get what i mean,

now that was just confusing, pulled it apart, old cap should fit, new leads should fit it, they're "Bosch Super Sports Inductive Core" and hoping old button will fit and new coil, hows this sound? here it is next to a 6cyl, with old adaptor, cap n that crap

The original cap goes straight on but I beleive you need a Ford Rotor button. You will also need a new lead for the coil. Did exacly the same conversion on my LH with a Bosch.

The rotor button is easy to get from any auto shop. Cant remember what Ford model it is from, someone on here will know! Think it might be an XD.... The new coil has a different end on it compared to the points one. Easy to test, just attach the lead from your old dizzy cap to the new coil and see if it fits.
