as the title states, i recently picked up a set of 15x10 hotwires. they are in need of a good polish and repaint but other than that they are in good nick. now i just need to find some tread to wrap 'round them. wondering what peoples choice is and if they are easily available. im sorta thinkin 305x50x15.. any opinions?

[edit] admins- may have put this in the wrong section, feel free to move

Thats going to be very tall! 265/50 is a common size, maybe 295/50 if you can clear the extra rolling diameter. There was a thread recently about 285/40 being available at extravagant prices...

As already said, 265/50's are common on 10" wide rims. If you're after that same look you have with a 265/50 on a 8" rim (I have this on my car now :) ) then, yeah, a 295/50 is what you would be after.

Mastercraft Avenger GT or Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T are the only two available tyres that I have found in 295/50.

Good luck getting them in Yokohama 352's or BF Goodrich T/A.

The 285's are ideal
Thats what went onto Welbys car originally and they looked excellent in the guards
The 295's were abit high and needed flare butchering

Call Ben at Antique Tyres in Welshpool
Tell him I said to call
Won't do you any good with prices but he'll be able to tell you whats available
He gets alot of bigger sizes as needed
Right up to a 515 which are great for T buckets :)

go the 295s, i had 15 x 10 gold hotwires back in the day and they we're awesome. wish i didn't sell them  :fool:
although the 14 x 10s with 265s on the front we're a handful, especially in the wet.
crap quality pic, but you get the idea of what it looked like.

oops!!

Tony - is this the guy you are talking about?

http://cgi.ebay.com....=item3ca697a31a

The ad states that $575 is for 2 tyres as well.

Anyone else notice that the Cooper tyre shown in the ad is different to the others?

Here are the 265/50's - same deal.

I got 295/50/15's on my LH, had to cut the guards and the flares for clearance and couldnt fit the flares perfectly (sit a little higher from the bottom of the sill panel) just cos its such a tall/long tyre.

Looks Fat as tho!

But yea 285/50/15's probly a better choice

I just called Antique Tyres, asked them if they stocked or could order in a set of 285/40's. The bloke on the other end was silent, apparently he had never heard of a 285/40. and doesnt have a 285/50. they only have 265 and 295/50.
do you (datto) or welby know the brand of tyre it was, he said he might be able to sorce something if he knew the brand.

The 295/50's were yokies, can't remember the type, but they were the common T/A style block pattern As Datto said , they were too tall.

I now have 2 lots of Yokies in the excellent but no longer available AVS pattern
285 40 ZR 15 and 255 45 ZR 15

These were bought unused but had been sitting too long and they are 'off'.

I also have Michelin TB 15 Race Rubber, (historic tread pattern) in 295 40 15 and 270 45 15.

Excellent rubber, too friggin expensive for the road, which was the point of my question above.

Heya 89 king.

I was in the same situation as you and wanted some fat rubber with a low profile for my 15x10's

Welby helped me out heaps and in the end of a lot of ringing around i got put through to Bridgestone in QLD on some 295/45/15 or 295/40/15, cant remember.
They had to get them in and they came in at a tad over $900 each plus postage.

In the end i made the 295/50's fit and at $260 a pop you can have heaps of fun on them without worrying about having to replace them at a massive cost. Also having new fresh rubber more often is better than having old tires.

Of coarse they wont handle nearly as good but good for street cruising. The cash i saved i put into a set of R-spec tyres for track work.

If you don't want to cut ya guards spend the extra $$ on the low profiles. Im pretty sure they will fit without cutting. Im not sure of how much clearance you will have.

Good luck.

Evan.
