The AMC and XU-1 tank thread reminded me!!

Do we actually know who has the moulds and is going to do new shells?

Might have to find an LC/J 4dr to sacrifice........

What's your thinking here?
They weren't built on a LC/J platform.

I think completely finished and rolling repro GTR-X vehicles on a short production run would cost in excess of a hundred grand each.

I very much doubt they would be registerable with a red six, either. All kinds of problems would need to be overcome to meet current adr's.

If you were to build them as per original,it would be a lot of money to spend on a vehicle that is not original and can only be taken to shows on a trailer.

If there is a market out there to make this a viable proposition for a small business, let me know,as there is a talented bloke considering the venture with new moulds, but he has serious misgivings as to its viability, including the set up costs to manufacture every single item from scratch.

You would need to sell a few to turn a buck.

Purpose built chassis - quite simple if you've seen a hotrod built, but it helps to have some floorpan and chassis pieces.
Front and rear clip could basically be used, even by stitching together with a chassis kit.......

As was said years ago, kit car build, like a cobra/GT40/etc, so entirely possible to register, just need to build three to crash test..............

The latest AMC magazine has images from a reader of a GTRX rolling shell that somebody owns and was told
by holden to take it back in the early 70's.

Does anybody know who owns it ?

I think they're only holding the tank on, but will rego accept that as a design drawing :P

Lots of Model A wooden framers trolling around though :D

What engine prefix would they have had 186x or 3100x or perhaps by the time they were in production it would have been a CK block??

The GTR X is still alive the actual car is not in Australia though ,I was at Prahan platers a while back and a dude used them to do his rechroming and by the way John does a great job down there. The pics are up on his shops wall if you want to see it . Would love to see it in the flesh {metal}. Holden On dazza

Ps: i know where the no 1 protype Holden is located and i have a pic of myself holding the original id plate this was after it sold on ebay about 5 years back for excess of 300k ..Holden On dazza

That is one gorgeous car, even by todays design standards.

How much do you reckon they would be worth today if GMH had built them (in limited numbers like A9X or XU-1) and kicked Ford butt at Bathurst with them ???

Is there one of these existing on display anywhere?

There is some nice pics on the web of one painted in white, i assume these are old pics taken back when it was first coming out?

Then there seems to be that one was painted silver, and fitted with the mags. (maybe this is the same one)
