theres places around that can fix the cluster, re kitting a 4speed atm, getting the kit from a place in wagga and sending my cluster to Sydney for a place to machine it out and put a hardened sleeve in it, I think after freight and costs of everything it'll be around the $300 mark for me to have the box back together,

youll get there mate

Bit of corrosion and paint peel. What are they and what are they worth?

Have these and the gearbox is paid off. Whats the easiest way to re fit the motor and box? From above or drop the k frame and put it in from underneath. Seem hard to line up without a motor on it. So is it hard to line up?

Looks good mate.
Drop the k frame, fit up everything to k frame (motor, box, clutch, extractors) and lower the car onto it.

I like the wheels. Could strip the clear off and respray them if the damage pisses you off.

Personally if you are doing it by yourself I find leaving the K frame alone a lot less hassle.

Agreed. Each to their own though I guess. If you drop the engine in through the hole, then make sure you rest the extractors down in the bay and lower the engine down with them sitting aside in place.

Might not hurt to trial fit them to the engine first out of the car as well just to make sure the flanges line up with the studs and nothing needs grinding or fixing up.

Good luck. Not far off again now.

Cheers guys i couldnt resist and already bolted them to the motor last night.they clear the standard size starter well and everything appears to line up well.

Aiming to have it up and running for the vct maroondah dam run but might fall short due to not enough cash left to do the exhaust. Unless i bring it without one.

Good luck mate, sounds like its beginning to come together.

I wouldn't suggest going to the Dam run with no exhaust, could cause you a lot of grief, not to mention create a mess under the car.

from here on in I only have one hint of advise for you;

Take your time and do it once! It may feel like it's taking you longer to build and get running, but in the long run if you slow down and spend the money wisely, it will come together faster, cheaper and better than it would doing it with cheaper parts and rougher. This will only lead to spending more and doing things two and three times. Believe me when I say it will be well worth it in the long run!!

Once again, good Luck and just keep chipping away!

G'day Steve,

Grants advice above is solid and what I recommend!!

If however you do want to just get it running I have a torana v8 single exhaust here. Basically just connects to your extractors then merges into a single system with a single muffler and (I think) it dumps the single pipe before the diff.  Not hipo by any stretch but the price is right.  I'll go dig it out and post a pic or two :)

The rocker covers are on the wrong sides...

What's the rest of the engine like, compression, valve guides & springs, does it burn oil, etc.?

Did you get a look at the lobes on the back of the cam when you had the inlet manifold off before, you can normally see when the case hardening is wearing because it looks a bit "blotchy" or pitted, once that wears through it normally doesn't take long for the lobe to get completely rounded off.

If it was running smooth and quiet before I'd be tempted to let sleeping dogs lay myself, it's not that much harder to swap the cam in the car, the worst part is getting the front of the sump gasket to go back together.

Pulled the front end today and test fitted it up with an old auto. The dipstick i might just get in and the passengers side has about 1mm clearan e to the bellhousing. Also a little worried the steering shaft could hit.

Current list is

1. Finish the wiring or pay someone to do it when the motors in

2. Do the rocker cover gaskets

3. Exhaust manifold gaskets

4. Modify bellhousing a little to clear extractors.

5. Get bolts for the clutch dust cover

6. Bolt the clutch and gearbox all back together and into the car.

7. Get exhaust done

8. Sort out a shifter boot.

Im sure theres a lot more im forgetting. Just wish i has the time and money to do the motor properly and maybe paint the front end.

What type do you need? Presumably trimatic pattern to Aussie but what type of clutch set up?
I have a few lying around, one might be suitable.
