EFI heads have different exhaust ports...they are evenly spaced rather than the earlier style with the pair in the middle. Not sure if the inlet is the same or different id say its the same. There may be more differences than just exhaust ports but im not sure, but i guess to modify the casting they would have re-engineered he head to a degree.

The only thing that really makes them any better than the carb heads is that the inlet port is higher, enabling better flow past the inlet valve.

Brad1979UC - What is the difference with the carbied heads and the EFI ones?

Cheers

Totally different heads. Intakes flow much better, though a good set of early heads might have the edge on bottom end torque.
The valves are laid out in a different order so you have to use a matching cam as well as matching manifolds. Your existing cam won't work with late heads.

i just did this for my torry, i had the engine fully rebuilt: machine hone, rings, bearings, heads were shaved 40thou upgraded with stiffer valve springs, retainers and collets, block decked 10thou. i went for a Crane 284 cam because its as big as i could go without changing to flattops. i shaved the heads to bump up the comp a bit im still running std pistons and bore. it was a low KM motor, the rebuild was just a matter of 'bit more power'.

i have only done 350km since the rebuild so i havent given it much as im still running it in, but from the little it has done it pulls like a train, im very happy. the box im running is a celica 5 speed. which to be honest i dont expect to last, as it didnt like dumping the clutch when the engine was stock. running a H/D clutch with custom presure plate. i'll probably upgrade to a supra box when this one expires.

cheers
john
