Great thread, I'm currently in the process of smoothing out the engine bay while my motor is out for work, haven't plugged the k frame holes but pretty much doing the rest,

Quick question, when cutting the lip from the top of the firewall near the plenum did you brace it from behind or just cut and weld the two pieces together? I've heard from a mate with experience that sometimes the can split the welds across the top of the wall.

What brake setup are you going with??

Keep us posted :-)

For the firewall lip i braced behind where the lip was with short pieces of round bar.
Brakes are, 290mm Upc front disc kit, rear commodore discs all with slotted rotors and a Vk V8 booster and master cylinder
Fingers crossed i will have a paint update after this weekend.

Great colour choice, reminds me of my ol' rig

So when's the tedious process of putting the engine in without touching the paint happening?

Looks great Derrin - congratulations.
Like I said in my thread, that colour doesn't photograph too well does it - the pics just do not mirror the depth of the colour and sort of turn out milky if you get my meaning - wish I new why this happens but hey, it is a great colour.
Your engine bay looks really good and I still reckon what you did with the chassis rails is really clever.
All the best, TB

Did a little bit on the car in the past week or so.
Fitted the diff, mainly so i could wheel the car around with the aid of my trolley jack.

Posted Image

The main reason for moving the car was so i could assemble the hoist.

Posted Image

Next i have to paint the gearbox and assorted stuff so i can attach it to the engine and put it all in the car.

Not one swear word? Really?
Not even "Thats looks #$%^ing great!" or "Geez im glad that went in so %^oo** easy"
Honestly if you make any significant progress without swearing in either frustration or joy then you cant be doing it right.
By the way i think your car is looking $%^&ing fantastic.

Are they the standard Commodore HSV headers, if so i'll be happy.
i have a set off my motor still, it will save me buying aftermarket ones.

Update time, The hatch has been fitted, i was sick of ot hanging in the way while i was trying to work.
The fuel tank, pump, filter and new 3/8 fuel lines (pressure and return) have been fitted, done in stainless hardline and braided hose.
The brakes have been hooked up and just need bleeding. The commodore rear calipers and backing plates were swapped from one side to the other so the shockies would fit.
And the worst job was the wiring. It is all hooked up now except for the battery leads. I am very happy with how the engine bay looks with the wiring hidden. I have added a picture to show how the wiring passes through the firewall, most of it then passes through the arch in the middle of the manifold.
Just needs the battery and leads fitted, radiator filled and the oil pump primed and i can fire it up. Hopefully next weekend.

Looks great Derrin and your engine bay is pretty smart stuff.
Since you have gone for the minimal engine bay look - is there anything you can do about the throttle cable - surely you have something clever in mind?
Cheers, TB
